22 oz bottle served in a Samuel Smith's becker. (from 2012 notes). Pours a VERY dark and remarkably ruby tinted clear liquid covered by a medium dense and well-proportioned tan head. The head has very good retention but leaves little lacing. The aroma is disappointing. Too much like a sweet liqueur, especially after warming when the alcohol esters are a little too prevalent, there's a trace of dankness, and the vanilla seems less subtle than desired. The flavor, in contrast, is rather good. The alcohol remains adequately hidden, there is no unpleasant dankness, and it is not objectionably sweet. The vanilla addition does seem a bit overdone. Plenty of dark malt with a hint of smoke. M: Creamy smooth; full body; excellent medium-light carbonation. O: a fine, vanilla-flavored porter.

March 9th, 2015 - Tahitian Vanilla = Tanilla? That's my best guess, because the aroma seems not to have much vanilla in it. Light, smoky and malty, but certainly not vanilla. The foamy palate comes partially from the foamy, spongy head, spreading across the tongue with speed and offering more smoky notes. Vanilla is absent here as well, and in its place, the repeated and thundering flavors of ham, smoked ham, and hammy ham. It is with a deep porcine voice that this beer speaks, blundering about with a exaggerated smoky taste that would pair well with Lapsan Souchong smoked tea.

Pours a dark brown, with good tan head. Aroma of vanilla and malts. Taste is of quality vanilla beans mixed into a decent porter. Not particularly complex, but I really like this one since I am a fan of vanilla beer. Thumbs up!

Pours dark black with lots of foam, aroma of bitter malts and vanilla. Taste to match. Bitter malts upfront with vanilla at the end. Tap.

650. Pours an opaque matte black with a dense and creamy light tan head that settles quickly away to not much more than a thin ring. Big sweet nose, pretty much all vanilla. Disappointingly, it has that dry smell you get with synthetic vanilla. Creamy medium body with moderate carb. Light milk chocolate notes with tons of that chemical-y dry vanilla flavor that tastes artificial. I believe their statement that they are using real beans, I just don’t think these are quite the right beans to showcase this forwardly in the aromatics and flavor profiles. It’s a solid, relatively dynamic base porter, but the vanilla is a little too far forward and not pleasing enough on its own merits.

650ml bottle pours an amber brown color with a finger of light beige head that leaves some spotted lacing behind. Aroma is chocolate and vanilla with hints of coffee and roasted grains. Taste is a roasted grain and coffee bitterness with a chocolate malty sweetness and vanilla. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, a well crafted porter that is both tasty and well balanced. Recommended.

Bottle. Dark brown with reddish tint, foamy beige head, mocha aroma, medium carbonation, chocolate/mocha taste, full body, long mocha finish. Tasty and satisfying, great brew.

Davros (3338) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - SEP 27, 2016
Pours black with a large head. Nose shows vanilla, roasted malt, chocolate, delicate roast coffee. Flavours include roasted malt and vanilla. Dry but the vanilla gives the impression of sweetness.
