COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dunkle Bernsteinfarbe mit 55 EBC Farbeinheiten, angenehm malzaromatischer, leicht hopfenaromatischer Geruch, vollmundiger, malziger Geschmack, Stammwürze 12,8% entsprechend einem Alkoholgehalt von 5,5 Vol%, leichte Hopfennote durch feinsten Aromahopfen aus der Hallertau, 18 EBC, sahnig-cremige Schaumentwicklung.
FAZIT: Ein typisches bayerisches Dunkel meisterlicher Brauart!

(bottle) Clear, chestnut-brown colour with a ruby shine and a beige and medium-sized foamy head. Slightly earthy and toasted malty aroma with notes caramel/Bavarian Blockmalz, mildly nutty hints and a tinge of herbal hops. Moderately sweet and mildly bitter flavour, rather light bodied with a well-carbonated mouthfeel. Dark and mildly toasted malty base with earthy and nutty notes, caramel and slightly herbal hoppy spice; moderately dry, sweet-bitter, earthy and slightly herbal hoppy finish. Pleasant. 22.XII.16

500ml bottle [Thanks Maddie!]. Clear, mahogany colour with ruby glimmer and average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Sweet-ish, dark malty aroma with a nuttily touch, hints of malt lozenge, grassy hoppy overtones. Taste is moderately sweet dark malty, some caramel, hints of malt lozenge, a nuttily touch, slightly bitter, minimally grassy hoppy counterweight. Well balanced, nice.

Bottle, 5.2%. Dark amber. Caramel and a bit of burnt malt in the nose. (Rye) bread, caramel and a bit of liquorice to taste. Nice lingering finish. Thought I’d bought the bock and slightly disappointed to find I hadn’t (label does mention bock so not obvious if you only look quick).

Draft at the brewpub. Pours clear brown with a creamy, beige head. Moderately sweet with notes of light cocoa, brown bread, faint earth. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish with subtle brown sugar, toasted brown bread, touches of toffee. Very drinkable dunkel.

Aug. ’15. A 0.5 l bottle that poured a dark reddish brown body with medium sized head, colored accordingly. Fine lightly roasted aroma. Nuts, cocoa, caramel, dark fruits. Lightly roasted, bittersweet flavor, too. Pleasant amount of coffee, caramel, nuts. Complex for the style. Medium body with longer dark malt finish with a weird soapy off note. Extremely well balanced and quite a pleasant dunkel.

Old notes. Tap @ the brewery. Brown color. Head leaves a thin layer. Aroma’s: roasted malts, light sweet malty. Flavor is moderate sweet, roasted. Body is thin. Long finish that starts roasted and develops towards a moderate bitterness.

Between black and dark red. Dark fruit, caramel and citrussy hops. Also very sweet and surprisingly sour. Pretty much no bitterness. The main reason I didn’t like it is the combination of maltiness and sourness.

TAR (2708) - Marshall (Asheville area), North Carolina, USA - FEB 16, 2016
Draft at the brewpub in Nov. 2015: Deep rust. Custardy uniform cap of froth. Expressively malty, nut-rich aromas of darkened piecrust, fallen leaves, chocolate-covered hazelnuts, pecan, toast and toffee. Soft, fine carbonation. Ripe splash of black plum flavors dovetails with a javalike maltiness. Intricately malty, with breadcrust and elegant whispers of toffee causing the mouth to water. Minerals pierce the malt and help lighten the body. Soft, vanilla-cookie pils malt adds yet more layers to the toffee, cocoa and coffee interplay. Deep malt extraction yields a maltiness that’s rich to the point of being smoky. Understated plum notes also help add lift, but by no means weigh the body down or impede the exquisite malt. Clean, well balanced finish of hazelnuts and cocoa. As with the Edel-Pils and Bock, here is another polished quaffable creation from a very clean brewer.

500ml on tap at the brewpub in Regensburg. Aroma is coffee and brown sugar. Appearance is light cloudy dark brown with a light brown-ish head. Taste is mildly sour, medium sweet and light bitter. Perfect balance. Superb Dunkles.
