UPDATED: NOV 1, 2012 Draught. Black, tannish head. Nose is black malts, roasted, some syrupy notes. Body is fullish, quite dry actually. Some lager yeast flavors. A bit dusty hops. The bottled version is way better than this now. The intensity is somehow lost. And the smooth body. Will have to re-rate with a bottle soon.

This is the standard for a porter: its sturdy black colour, the smell of roasted malt and the rich mouth filling taste of chocolate, a hint of coffee and the roasted malt... simply put, this is the best porter, if not beer, in the world that all other porters are (or should be!) compared to.

33 cl bottle, BBE 23/11/2018. Probably my most often drank beer of the last couple of years. Smooth black beer with a nice beige head. Sweet chocolate aromas with roasty, smooth coffee, some ripe dark fruit. Taste of chocolate and coffee with a roasty, hoppy finish. Gets quite dry(ing) towards the end. The medium- body is a mixed bag; drinkability is high, but sometimes one yearns for more. Great beer.

dysenteri (284) - Gothenburg, SWEDEN - FEB 21, 2017
Bottle from 2015. Black, beige head. Aroma is dark fruit, raisins, chocolate, coffee, bread, leathery. Medium sweetness with light/medium bitterness. Medium body, thin creamy texture with a pretty lively carbonation. A porter that draws to the dark fruit area, kinda like it.

For the book! Aroma is malty, coffee, roasted malt, bready, sweet but nice. Appearance is dark dark brown, light tan head, poured thickish. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, bready, a little astringent, bready, somewhat disappointing. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, astringent roasted malt aftertaste. Overall, this one just misses the mark.

Its good beer in the porter genre. A bit mmmi-ish and home beer -like though, so it doesnt taste like a "world-class" beer should. But some may find this a plus, rather than a minus. Aroma is strong, dark and rich. The taste is also very burnt and rich. Chocolate, coffee, raisins, all sorts of "black" things. Good is that theres not too much bitterness. The beer might even be a bit too sweet, but this might be a matter of taste. The carbonation feels a bit sloppy, but fits to the style. A very "standard" porter Id say. A good "reference standard" beer in this genre.

Mindwarp (270) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 31, 2017
UPDATED: FEB 1, 2017 Pours a dark black with a tan head and nice lacing. Aroma of malt and a hint of chocolate. Taste is not as exciting as Id hoped. I love Porters and this one is good but not as good as others I love. Although a good Porter I wouldnt drink it again because I now of a lot better Porters out there.

2009 vintage... Pours a black color with loads of beige lacing and head. Smells like a chocolate factory, really nice! Chalky palate... Never rate palate... This is a must. Chocolate and coffee flavor a nice porter.

12 oz. bottle, pours black with a medium tan / light brown head. Aroma brings out roasted malt upfront, followed by cocoa powder and a little chalky notes. Flavour is robust, with dry cocoa powder, toasted malt, and a little coal. Robust and smooth on the palate. Lots of depth. A pleasure to drink. Excellent.

Bottle. Black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and cocoa. The flavor also had a coffee taste. It was bittersweet.

$3.99 bottle from Wine Warehouse. Pours THICK and extremely dark, nearly black with a frothy, soft medium brown head. Aroma of dark chocolates, smoke, caramel. Taste is smoked deli meat, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, ash, molasses... pretty complex and pretty delicious.
