Our brewers wanted to make a beer that went down easy after a day out on the water. Big Wave Golden Ale is just the ticket. Big Wave is a lighter bodied golden ale with a tropical hop aroma and flavor a smooth, easy drinking refreshing ale. The use of caramel malt contributes to the golden hue of this beer and our special blend of hops provides bright quenching finish. 10.3

Malts: Pale (Premium 2-Row), Caramel
Hops: Galaxy, Citra

Flasche 355cl. Frisch-herbes Ale mit verblffender Tiefe trotz den leichten 4.4%ABV. Erfrischend wohl auch wegen des weichen Wassers. Gut gelungen!

Golden ale from Hawaii, from the Kona brewery owned by the same semi-industrial beer chain that took over Redhook and Widmer as well; bottle from an Albert Heijn supermarket. Quite attractive label, making one dream of a tropical island surrounded by a deep blue ocean. Medium thick, egg-white, membranous lacing, fairly stable head remaining more or less closed for a while, over a very lightly hazy (so almost clear) yellow blonde beer with greenish hue and strings of lively fizz here and there. Somewhat dank, new hoppy aroma, but with more dankness than actual bright hop fragrance; notes of fermenting lemongrass, old lemon rind, stale lime juice, withering cut-flowers, freshly cut raw potatoes, gooseberry juice, sweetish cereals, minerals, cotton, glue. Restrained fruitiness in the onset, some pear and gooseberry notes but superficially so, sweetish with a dull sourishness, medium carbonated, tad minerally; in all relatively neutral, but quite typical for a golden ale. Smooth, slick, thin body, cereally malt sweetishness in the middle with sharper grainy edges, while the fruitiness fades away; minerally carbonation stings keep gently tickling the sides of the tongue and add a bit of liveliness to an otherwise plain and simple palate. Finishes with some aromatic dank hop notes retronasally (withering flowers and some old lemon rind again) but low bitterness, therefore remaining thin and slick - again, as is rather typical for a semi-industrial Anglo-Saxon golden ale. Light grassy and floral bitterishness does linger afterwards, along with a very faint potato starch-like yeasty touch and something vaguely chalky. In all respects your average modern, mass-marketed golden ale, with some aromatic hop qualities that come across as rather dank and underachieving even for this style; could have been brighter, but then this has travelled a very long way only to end up on a supermarket shelf, what can you expect... Answers the requirements of its particular style and its marketing as a simple summer quencher, as far as Im concerned, but I do not really see the point in importing a golden ale all the way from Hawaii if many breweries just across the Channel, in England, make much more attractive examples of this altogether humble style.

35,5 cl. bottle shared. Found @ Albert Heijn. Apperance: Clear golden with a white head. aroma: malts, some citrus and tropical fruity hops. Taste: sweet, with a decent bitterness, Taste like a hopped up macro something. Sweet malts, caramel, some grassy and citrus hops and some off cardboard tones allthough in the back. Thinnish body, (too ) high carbonation. Why was it flewn over ?? And why can stock some small Albert Heijns while the could not reserve the space for a better local product.

bottle(s) from drugstore in San Diego. Suprising tase of mango, banana, pineapple and rhye. Pours light n golden, virtually no head. Not very complex, but refreshing and high CO2, rather sweet - exactly as promised, great after a day out in the waves or in a hot desert. Serve ice-cold. Even my fiancee liked it - and she isnt into beer at all.

Bottle from local AH, BB 240118, 35.5 cl sample. Clear golden color, short frothy head. Soft hoppy aroma, citrus, bit lychee, slight caramel malt. Sweet grainy malt in taste, soft bitterness, cardboard. Smell was ok, but taste is pretty horrible. Ouch.
