Lightly hazy copper in the glass with a wispy thin ivory head. Grassy hops in the nose with underpinnings of sweet pale malt.
Herbal hops in the mouth, hints of citrus. Crisp but with a pleasant supporting sweetness to balance the hops. Good body for a pale ale, easy drinker with a sweetish finish and aftertaste.
Solid pale ale, good summer drinker. AwesomePossum (17) - Florida, USA - JUN 1, 2010
This is a great pale ale. It’s dry and hoppy without being overbearing--it’s a good gateway into IPAs. The bitterness lingers in a refreshing way. Highly recommended. l1br4r14n (451) - Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA - MAY 28, 2010
Pours amber with a one- finger head. Soft aroma of citrus hops. Flavor is slightly bitter balanced with malt sweetness, enough citrus hops to give this beer some bite without overpowering. Crisp. Nicely dine. xs2500 (187) - Mississippi, USA - MAY 22, 2010
Pours a nice amber color with a thin white head. Aroma has a nice bitterness to it, with hints of malts. Flavor is refreshing and bitter, little citrusy a good pale ale for a hot day. beernovice39 (3269) - Idaho, USA - MAY 22, 2010

Pours deep amber into a shaker. Off-white head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Mild butterscotch aromas. Crisp with butterscotch and caramel upfront and a dry hint of resin in the finish. scrob (53) - Jacksonville, Florida, USA - MAY 13, 2010
amber color, sweet aroma. crisp taste with some hop bite. malty taste for sure. thick mouthfeel was surprising. finishes kind of thin and watering which is disapointing. had alot of these in kaui’i last week so i was happy nonetheless. bubbleflubber (2235) - Swannanoa, North Carolina, USA - MAY 12, 2010
Deep amber pour into the glass, with a light eggshell head that reduces to a thin ring of lace. Some citrus and hopping to the nose. The malts are slightly bready, turning dry and biscuity midway through the pull. Light dry hopping to finish. Nothing complex, and not a super strong pale ale, but the palate is very drinkable, with decent carbonation to accompany the medium body. hahobbs (6) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 9, 2010 does not count
I like most of Kona’s other beers, but the Fire Rock was a little disappointing. Not a bad beer by any measure, but also not a great one. Malty and a bit thick, with some bitterness but very little hop aroma (despite the brewery’s description). Drinkable but unmemorable. jhumphries69 (1034) - Tyrone, Georgia, USA - MAY 8, 2010
Draft at Taco Mac. Pours bright copper. Aroma is bready with light earthy hops. Flavor is lightly fruity, very bready, and a little grainy with light earthy and citrusy hops. Dry finish. Mouthfeel is crisp. Overall, a drinkable and decent beer - but quite plain. Label’s suggestion that recipe uses "liberal amounts" of hops seems a little flat.
