02.19.05 2002 on tap at Toronado BWF Pretty dark brew but flat looking and feeling. Nice balance but nothing special. Alcohol was very present to me, especially for a 2002 beer, but that added to a nice peppery finish. It was a long day. Draft at the Oahu brewpub. Nice dark fruit aromas coming off this deep brown draft. Smallish head didn’t stick around for long. Lots of malty and more dried raisin like fruits on the flavor. Pours an amber brown color with an off white head. Caramel, toffee, toast, alcohol, oak and tobacco aroma. Bourbon, vanilla, oak, caramel, toffee, toast, biscuit and hop flavors. Medium full body with average carbonation and a caramel, oak and alcohol finish.

2009 on tap at brewpub. Pour is deep ruby red with almost no head. Aroma is loaded with caramel malt, notable hop component, and faint spice. Flavor is very typical barleywine, done well. Brilliantly sweet, and aggressively hopped give this beer a very complex mouthfull of flavor. Loads of things going on here from the sweet caramel malt to the full yeast flavor, and bitter finish. On tap, Koko Marina. Poured a beautiful amber brown. Smelled of wood, malt, and nuts. Initial flavor is fairly sweet, with some dark fruit that perfectly balances the sweet malt. Flavor then rounds out with a nuttiness and firm malt backbone, without getting too sweet or alcoholic. Deep ruby, light tan collar.
Nose is caramel, dark fruits, stone fruits,sugar and subtle hops.
Taste is very stone and dark fruits, Subtle pine hops and lots of caramel.

Served on tap at the Marina Brew Pub. The appearance is a tawny brown with no real head. Flavors and aromas are perfume, alcohol, and a fair amount of hops. Did really do it for me.
