On tap at the Big Island pub. Clear copper/red with a slight tan head. Aroma is slight pine, deep raisin/date barley wine, and perhaps some caramel/toffee through the finish. Taste is a touch of hops up front followed by a thick sweet malt, raisin barleywine. Bit of hops on the finish. Solid representation of the style. nqualls (1452) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - JAN 1, 2009
On tap at Koko Marina. Poured a slightly hazy amber/red with a thin off white head. Aroma of malt and some piney hops with a wood note. Flavor was well balanced with a huge malt base, a nutty flavor and a good amount of hops to finish it out. The alcohol had a very slight warming effect. furthur (1193) - Eagle River, Alaska, USA - JAN 5, 2017
Draft sampler at brewery, dark amber beer, no head. Aroma is citrus, raisin, malt. Taste is raisin, spice, spruce, citrus. Palate is rich and smooth carbonation subdued. Not too sweet, this is a nice, hoppy barleywine. estoppel (1028) - Buffalo, New York, USA - APR 24, 2008
On draft at the brewpub. Aroma of caramel malts and American hops, dark amber body, small whitish head. Nicely balanced between hop flavors/bitterness and sweet malts. Nicely done. padrefan98 (854) - (San Diego) Santee, California, USA - MAY 31, 2007
Draft at the brewery in company of alohac and fordest. Good times. Very surprising in that this was actually pretty good. Completely unexpected flavorful fruity taste. Sweet at first with a nice malt finish. I enjoyed this one best.

A caramel color beer with not much head. The aroma is sweet with brown sugar showing up most. The taste is mainly caramel and goes down real easy. I was shocked to find out this was 12.5% ABV as it is hidden. Daytonbeer (730) - Ohio, USA - DEC 11, 2010
Pours a medium dark brown with reddish hue with residue. Tan head that lasts. Aroma is raisin, cranberry, pineapple, with some muskiness. Very complex. Taste is excellent as well...dark fruits and pine. Beware to all...the alcohol content changes frequently. marchcow (664) - Coralville, Iowa, USA - MAY 29, 2007
Good roasted malt and hopped up barleywine. Some roasted pineapple flavors. Light saltiness with smoked meats, rasins. Creamy dryish finish. Very well balanced. On tap at the brewery in Kona. arjoseph (642) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 4, 2009
GABF 2007. Smells of buttery toffee and raisins, classic BW smell. Smooth in the mouth, nicely hoppy on the end. The beginning is like a light fruit syrup, a concentrated but delicate (not treacly) sweetness. I would not be opposed to drinking this more often, but it is what it is. 2005 - On tap at the Kailua-Kona brewery. Pours out a rather dull brown with few if any highlights and a thin head. The aroma is rich, sweet, and malty but falls a little flat. Flavor is good--strong alcohol and a good amount of maltiness--though less sweet than I would have expected. This is combined with a high degree of hops bitterness with little hops flavor. A good barleywine though not this brewery’s forte.
