UPDATED: FEB 8, 2010 Kona Brewing on Oahu: Creamy and full textured. Awesome caramel and toffee flavors. Sweetened nuts and fresh bread, too. Nice level of hops. Kona Brewing on the Big Island: 2007 vintage on draft - super nice and tasty. Very rich malts, with only a mild bitterness, yet surprisingly decent aromas. Complex with high alcohol that was hidden well. Tasty stuff. 2007 vintage sampled at the brewery Nov. 2009: Lusciously creamy. Big toffee. Lesser elements of chocolate and coffee, with subtle hints of caramel-coated nuts. Rich and flavorful, yet delicate and nuanced. Kevster (344) - Bradenton, Florida, USA - DEC 26, 2009
On tap 10/19 @ Kona Brewing Co. in Honolulu. Pours a deep burgandy with reddish tones and a light tan head that is mostly lasting leaving nice lacing. Has a rich malty flavor and aroma with hints of caramel. This well-balanced brew has a creamy texture leaving a dry bitterness. An excellent sipping brew that is warming. 2003 GABF: Sweet malts, dark fruit and brown sugar in the nose, full smooth texture, starts sweet and then gets more sweet. Long aftertaste that is more than welcome to stay around.

Good roasted malt and hopped up barleywine. Some roasted pineapple flavors. Light saltiness with smoked meats, rasins. Creamy dryish finish. Very well balanced. On tap at the brewery in Kona. padrefan98 (854) - (San Diego) Santee, California, USA - MAY 31, 2007
Draft at the brewery in company of alohac and fordest. Good times. Very surprising in that this was actually pretty good. Completely unexpected flavorful fruity taste. Sweet at first with a nice malt finish. I enjoyed this one best. elihapa (1554) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - JUL 7, 2008
On tap, Koko Marina. Poured a beautiful amber brown. Smelled of wood, malt, and nuts. Initial flavor is fairly sweet, with some dark fruit that perfectly balances the sweet malt. Flavor then rounds out with a nuttiness and firm malt backbone, without getting too sweet or alcoholic. A really well balanced and complex brew, this really ranked among the best barley wines I’ve tried!
