Had this on tap at the Kona brewpub after a tour of the place while vacationing in Hawaii. This was definitely one of their better brews and I enjoyed it thoroughly. slowrunner77 (12591) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 16, 2014
"more of the english style...more malt, less hops, very dark. nice balance here, and the alcohol presence asserts itself. overall, a good, if not spactacular barleywine." dfinney23 (3395) - Houston, Texas, USA - JUN 17, 2015
Auburn brown with a barely there head. Caramel, dark fruits, a bit of spice, lots of hints of interesting things swirling around in there. Why am I trying to figure out what they are instead of just watching the fire dance on the tiki torch? bb (9697) - Alamo, California, USA - FEB 20, 2007
Draft. Rich bronze color with a nice off-white head. Malty, fruity, earthy aroma. Malty flavor with summer fruits and some raisins. Lingering peach/appricot with malt backing. shrubber85 (11573) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - OCT 8, 2008
Tap. Apricot/raisin malt aroma with a hint of alcohol. Brown amber color with a moderate head. Dried apricot/prune flavor with a moderate astringent alcohol finish. Very nice barleywine - a little hard to fully appreciate though when its 80 degrees outside though.

GABF 2007. Smells of buttery toffee and raisins, classic BW smell. Smooth in the mouth, nicely hoppy on the end. The beginning is like a light fruit syrup, a concentrated but delicate (not treacly) sweetness. I would not be opposed to drinking this more often, but it is what it is. hayduke (5619) - Eureka, California, USA - JAN 1, 2015
This was a drsft pour at the Brewpub in Kailua Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. In the glass came a red with a tan head. Nose of rich caramel malts and some citrus and ripe fruit. Alcohol for sure. Medium in body and a very alcoholic mouthfeel. Flavor is fruity with s good dose of citrus hops. Finish is bitter and again alcohol dominates. Good barley wine except I could have done with a bit less alcohol as you might have guessed. fletchfighters (1553) - AUSTRALIA - FEB 14, 2015

On tap at the 2005 Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival. This beer won third place at the Festival, but I didn’t get it. I thought it looked murky orange with a thin beige foamy head. It seemed under carbonated. Sweet alcohol nose with a syrupy mouthfeel. Flavors of honey, sweet caramel and some vanilla. It seemed a little raw. I must be the minority in this one. A caramel color beer with not much head. The aroma is sweet with brown sugar showing up most. The taste is mainly caramel and goes down real easy. I was shocked to find out this was 12.5% ABV as it is hidden.
