UPDATED: OCT 26, 2008 Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black body with a bubbly, beige head.
Smell: Coffee-scented nose with notes of dark malts, unsweetened chocolate, and a hint of dark caramel.
Taste: Sweetened Breakfast Blend coffee with traces of chocolate and caramel. Not too terribly much in the way of hops or bitterness, but this serves to allow the coffee flavor to rest leisurely on the palate. Chocolate dosed coffee in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Just barely medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A surprising, subtly tasty treat with a reasonably, sensible ABV. I’ll have another, please. biz82 (1327) - austin, Texas, USA - SEP 18, 2008
Pours nearly black with a ruby hue and a clingy tan head. Obvious aroma of coffee with roasted, vanilla, leather and nutty notes. A bit thin in body with cocoa and coffee flavors. A little chalky with a little DMS. A little lackluster. JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - SEP 15, 2008
UPDATED: APR 27, 2013 12oz from Sam’s, Durham. Dark, thick pour with a substantive body and moderate head. Huge roasted malts and coffee in the nose, exactly my hopes in picking up this beer for the first time. No overpowering bitterness, but just a deep flavor that’s well suited to the abundant malting and gives this beer depth (along with a killer finish). I’ll be getting this again, for sure. timsilvia32 (449) - from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - SEP 15, 2008
Fairly solid brown pour, off whitish head. Coffee aromas. Coffee flavors, not overpowering. Some roast malt, medium/light bodied. Pretty straight forward, pretty good and drinkable porter. A good take on a coffee style beer usually reserved for the stouts. For a brewer that has some macro style to it’s other brews, this one is just unique enough. Not real complex, but definetely worth a try. LtDan (1806) - Los Angeles County, California, USA - SEP 14, 2008
Perfect example of a coffee bomb. Pours dark, has a huge coffee flavor and mouthfeel, and finishes very soft. It is nice ice cold or after sitting for a bit.

Pours a brownish/black – coffee colored, with a small 1/8 inch head. Smells of beautiful roasted coffee dominates the malts. First sip is pure coffee heaven. Fairly light bodied, carbonated well. If you like coffee and coffee infused beers, you will not be disappointed with this fine beer from out 50th State. jrmac (335) - South Carolina, USA - SEP 13, 2008
Dark brown pour with a thin head for a porter. Smells of coffee, and malt. Taste is similar with faint coffee, and even fainter caramel. Good Effort SphinxTX (2875) - Mata Gorda, Texas, USA - SEP 12, 2008

12 oz bottle. Pours pitch black with 1 cm of thick tan head that diminishes into a thin oily layer. Aroma of espresso/coffee, very strong. Initial flavor is smokey malts. Flavor becomes a little more bitter by the end from the coffee. Aftertaste is all coffee and limited in duration. Light to medium body, limited lacing, light carbonation, and limited alcohol presence. Overall a nice coffee porter.
