Beautiful dark amber color with generous creamy head. The aroma is nice, perfumy, with some fruitiness from the hop and light yeasty presence. The mouthfeel is rather dry but with some rounded corners; the flavor is basically dark caramel, with a nutty touch (roasted nuts), and quite strong bitterness, with some hop oils in the final and maybe even some fruitiness.
Not enough character from the yeast to be a real ESB, and with an American bitterness level, but not too bad.
UPDATED: DEC 21, 2010 Sample at the brewpub in Kailua. The beer is a mostly clear dark orange color with a medium thin light beige head that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Toasted malt and hops aroma. Medium body with flavors of sweet malt, earth and mild hops. The finish is mostly sweet malt with some notes of caramel and hops left over. On tap at the Kona location. This was on the special menu. Dark, clear and gold. Malty sweet nose. Similar palate, with a decent dry finish. In the session-style of an ESB this is a quaffable beer. According to a patron, this was a nitro pour, I did not detect this, and did not confirm this with anyone official.
