Limited release. Swimming in a fresh water pool at the base of a cascading waterfall is what we all imagine we would find in paradise. On Maui, follow the old Hana Highway and you will find such a place Wailua Falls. This plunging cascade of clear water is the inspiration for our Limited Release Wailua Wheat. This golden, sun colored ale has a bright, citrusy flavor that comes from the tropical passion fruit we brew into each batch. Sit back, relax and enjoy paradise anytime.

Editors Note: Lilikoi Wheat was renamed to Wailua Wheat (both on draft and in bottle).

12 oz bottle. LIght fruity wheat malt aroma. Hazy golden yellow with a small white head. Just like the nose, light fruity wheat malt flavor with an odd subtle bitterness in the finish. Light body, moderate carbonation.

Golden hue with very soft haze. Passionfruit is mainly noticeable in the aroma, alongside grain and wheat. Somewhat nondeScript flavor is clean and lagerlike, with a dry finish but no fruits. Theres beer here, not overpowering fruit (which is nice) but I could use just a little bit more passion.

Very lightly scented of tropical fruit, a bit sweet & bit tangy with some hay. Clear gold with a white head. A bit of "sweet & sour" flopping like a freshly caught fish. Seems to wind up more on the sweet side.

Fruity-floral aroma in a golden pour. Tray fruity flavour is typical of an American wheat beer but it is nothing special = Blue Moon does it better.

Pours a clear light golden with thin head and mild lacing. Aroma of toasted malt, tropical fruits. Moderately sweet with a touch of bitterness. Mild/medium bodied. Medium sweet finish. Enjoyable beach beer.

I liked this beer for a change of pace. Pretty much a typical american wheat with a slight fruity taste versus a "fruit beer". Brewed with passionfruit, so that gives its main fruity flavor, but also with a wheaty-slight honey flavor. Noticed a hint of coconut as well in the taste, but that may have just been my mind thinking "Hawaii" and may be part of the passionfruit that I was tasting. I actually tasted the wheats, barleys, and malts more than the fruity flavors. Not bitter at all, but the aftertaste is slightly bitter it seems from the yeast. Pours a pale yellow, slight orange-gold color. Was a decent introduction to the Kona family of beers.

Theres very little head, which is bizarre given that this is a wheat beer. No lace. Slight haze to the light gold color. I do not like the smell. It is very sour and there is an element of urine in it. I am repulsed by it. Theres also a stale grapefruit smell. The flavor is far more mild than the negative nose. The predominant taste is a citrus sourness. The swallow has a touch of hop, but it is mostly tart. The aftertaste is short lived. The body is predictable and the carbonation is comfortably on the high side, but it cant save this beer.

Draft in Kauai, Hawaii. Citrus and fruit isn't overwhelming. Nice balance with wheat and bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
