Limited release. Swimming in a fresh water pool at the base of a cascading waterfall is what we all imagine we would find in paradise. On Maui, follow the old Hana Highway and you will find such a place – Wailua Falls. This plunging cascade of clear water is the inspiration for our Limited Release Wailua Wheat. This golden, sun colored ale has a bright, citrusy flavor that comes from the tropical passion fruit we brew into each batch. Sit back, relax and enjoy paradise anytime.

Editor’s Note: Lilikoi Wheat was renamed to Wailua Wheat (both on draft and in bottle).

Sparky (2244) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - JUN 3, 2008
Bottle. Pours a hazy gold with one finger white head with some spotty lacing. Nose is funky passion fruit gone bad. Palate is light malts, wheat and a sweet and sour passion fruit finish. Lighter mouth feel. Interesting beer. Not something I’d try again, but interesting…

Magjayran (1378) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JUN 2, 2008
Bready and unpleasant american wheat beer with a hint of passion fruit in the nose. The fruit becomes more apparent with every sip any my enjoyment decreases at the same time.

unclemattie (4358) - Georgia, USA - JUN 2, 2008
12oz bottle. Pours clear, golden yellow. Thin, pure white, foamy head. Aroma is of strong smelling, rich & sweet, tropical passion fruit. The flavor has a light malt character blended with a taste of tropical fruit flavor extracts. Citrus and guava burps. Light bodied. Lots of tasty summer time flavors to make you the King of the Pool! I really like this beer.

redgold07 (308) - Irving, Texas, USA - JUN 2, 2008
A little hoppier than I like my wheat beer... pours a hazy amber color. Aroma is yeast and hop. Flavor is a little bitter with hops but also nice and wheaty with a little citrus and spice. 12 oz. bottle.

bhops (433) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAY 29, 2008
bottled, pours pale golden yellow with minimal head. Aroma of cheap champagne, hint of fruit and wheat. Flavor is (very) muted passion fruit with light maltiness. Some mild hops at the end. A bit lacking all around.

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2010 bottled, poured pale yellow with bright white head, Aroma of light fruit, wheat, slight pleasant bread yeast, slight sour/citrus notes and grassy spiced in background, crisp and refreshing ale with some bready wheat notes and very little hops noted, highly carb and light body with lingering notes of fruit without any sweetness

KAggie97 (3529) - Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA - MAY 27, 2008
Tap at BJ’s, Plano, TX location.
Pours a weak, thin, and uninspired yellow with an aroma of freshly made plastic and floral skunk. Flavor is undiluted passion fruit juice and plastic. Nice mouthfeel. Different, but kind of refreshing.

SSSteve (4006) - - MAY 26, 2008
very hazy gold with a small frothy white head. wheaty of aroma with a definite sweet fruity character. flavors of a crisp grainy wheat beer with a nice authentic tropical passion fruit flavor. i liked this one.

Aurelius (5294) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAY 25, 2008
Sweet Hurricane aroma with some off wheat musk, especially as you first open the bottle. Lightly hazy pear gold, nice label and cap. Lightly briny, fruity, underbittered, very desperately in need of a lemon or lime. Not sweet. Medium to medium light body. No glaring flaws, except for blandness, but if you’re looking for a better wheat at a similar pricepoint, then go with Sam Adams Spring, Leinenkugel’s Sunshine or just plain old Blue Moon.

elihapa (1552) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - MAY 25, 2008
from bottle. Pours a pale, slightly opaque color with a small head. Smells of passion fruit. Flavor is weak, except for a weak passion fruit. This is no doubt a fun beer, but it is altogether weak, and the flavors not well blended.13. Magic Hat #9 (sampled multiple times. Flavor is indescript, but not in a good way. Muddy, maybe apricot, light malts, nothing too complex.
