this is an odd beer. Beer has a nice tropical aroma but a bit watery and thin mouthfeel after the aroma was disappointing. Carbonation is nice and this might ok after a long day mowing the lawn...but I didnt think this was such a great beer. garretjax (103) - Colorado, USA - APR 17, 2008
Clear pale golden color with a thin quick white head. Aroma mostly of tropical fruit, namely passion fruit and a hint of a herbal grassiness. Light body and lower carbnonation. Slight biscuity flavor with softer passion fruit notes. Finish is clean and quick. RunDWP (203) - San Jose, California, USA - APR 17, 2008
UPDATED: APR 21, 2008 Bottled. I’ve been a fan of Kona Brewing, but this was a disappointment as I worked through a six-pack Very light wheat flavor with a little passion fruit. The good news is that there are no "off" flavors. The bad news is that the wheat and passion fruit flavors really don’t work that well together in my opinion. The beer also comes across a little watery. The beer just seemed to misfire. TURDFERGUSON (4058) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - APR 17, 2008
Pours a slightly hazy/cloudy golden with a thin white head that fades fast. Nose is fruity and refreshing--passionfruit, apricot, peach. Simple and easy flavor profile and mouthfeel. Strong with passionfruit and apricot, and peach fruit flavors. Not a ton going on here, but it was refreshing and not overly cloying and....my first brew rated from the magical islands of hawaii. Cloudy yellow bronze with creamy hopped head. Aroma bursts with passionfruit and citrus zest and a touch of uric acid. The flavor is again dominated by passionfruit and zesty citric fruitiness, perhaps like no other brew I have tasted. Tastes like a super simcoe brew as cattiness develops and contributes unpleasant characteristics.

Comparing this to another fruit beer Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. I honestly think Kona’s Wailua Wheat meets my standards better. The aroma is not nearly has pungent as the Cherry Wheat. It is subtle but very inviting. The taste is mild but still distinctive. Its a pretty active beer with lots of bubbles. However this is definitely NOT an everyday beer. 19Ei8hty (1166) - Washington, USA - APR 7, 2008
Shocked to find this rated so poorly. This is a true american wheat ale thru-and-thru with a strong passionfruit character that really works well. Upfront the drink is all about a sweet-and-tart passionfruit essence with some vanilla undertones that slowly segues into a strong wheat malt backbone that is almost as good as they come for that grain. A little tartness on the finish. Really a unique drink; very refreshing and enjoyable. Highly recommended. malrubius (2858) - Springfield, Vermont, USA - APR 7, 2008
12 ounce bottle in Hoegaarden tumbler. Pale hazy urine color with quickly dissipating white head. Aroma like a rug that a dog has been pissing on its whole life. Flavor slightly worse than the aroma. Sweet and bitter funky thin flavor that sticks to the back of my throat. Gross. morrdt (715) - Jacksonville, Florida, USA - APR 6, 2008
12 oz bottle from Total Wine in Jacksonville. Pours a nice gold color with a thin head. Aroma is distinct fruit nose with a touch of grain. You can immediately taste the passion fruit. A bit weird, but a nice beer. mar (5408) - Dallas, Texas, USA - APR 5, 2008
gold pour with a thin white head. fruit on the nose with a slight wheat scent. very thin on the palate and it has quite a distinct passion fruit taste.
