2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
On draught @ Sail & Anchor, Fremantle.
Blackened shade of brown in the glass and seemingly opaque. Head is well retained; a dense, creamy tan mass that leaves a thin lace. Pine resin and camphor dominates the nose. Undertones of dusty chocolate malt, stripped pinewood and rose petal come through as does an edge of very bitter herbs like wormwood. Creamy and meaty on the palate are as good as it got personally. There is a rough dark wood and smoke flavour that is swallowed whole by way too much pinewood. Camphorous like spraying insect killer into one’s mouth. Weedy and herbally acrid leaving the palate stripped of all feeling. I tried to like this but failed miserably. I expected esters of berries, citrus fruits; even a little sweet bubblegum, toffee or chocolate, something. I will for sake of argument give it another go. But….
Scared of heights, sure, but nothing beats the moment you hit the water, diving into a pool as a kid. This beer is that. It embraces you like the water does as you push through it, bubbles shooting past.

Nose has dark cocoa and rich malt. The hops are distinctive giving it a full nose. Taste is bitter into rich malt flavours. Burnt toast and rich cereal flavours with well developed bitterness and excellent sweet finish. Good beer, although this batch is let down by the excessive carbonation! Good beer with smoked flavour and a dark porter touch. Rich in malt aroma and flavor

Pours a solid black with a big beige head. The nose and taste both balance roasted malt with the lively fruity Nelson Sauvin hops really well. It’s not overblown, with harmony factoring more than punch. The feel is dry and warming with a lingering bitterness. Great beer.

Delicious! Pours well with a massive head but my word does it taste delicious. Not to be had too cold. Dervock (1416) - AUSTRALIA - MAY 1, 2015
Tap - pours black with a beige head. Roast malt and hop aroma. Lots of toasty malt on the taste with decent amount of hop flavour. Medium palate. stevoj (5433) - Boise, Idaho, USA - APR 11, 2015
Pours out black with a nice full beige head. Gentle roast grain aroma, fuller taste without overdoing the bitterness. Semi-sweet chocolate lingers. Sevenlee (1846) - Central Coast, NSW, AUSTRALIA - MAR 21, 2015
