Since April 1991, the Köstritzer black beer brewery, a subsidiary of the Bitburger brewery, has emerged as of one of the most modern breweries in Thuringia. In September 1993, it was with great pride we (re-) introduced the "original Köstritzer black beer".

Bottle. Black with a nice brownish head. Smells of roasted malts and a tiny touch of coffee. Taste is malts, coffee and a decent dose of hops. Medium carbonation. A little bit watery but very süffig. Nothing special but a good everyday beer.

Pours a near black with a pale tan head from a can. Aroma is molasses and pumpernickel toast. Flavor is molasses and cola, along with a bit of the same toast. Good beer.

Germany. Pitch black pour with a beige head and great retention. Fair lacing. Simple dark malt lager with light roast taste. No coffee.flavor. Really smooth and easy drinking.

Pours pitch black with a smallish tan head. Malty and slightly roasty aroma with some chocolate and coffee notes. Taste is mostly malty with caramel, liquorice and coffee. Finishes with pleasant crispy hops. Tasty and well-balanced brew. (0,33 l bottle, bb 13.04.17)

500ml bottle from LCBO. 4.8% alc./vol. Pours a deep brown colour with one finger of lasting head. Aromas of bread, hay with a whiff of grass. Taste matches the aroma with some sweet malty caramel finish. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

zapach przyjemny, delikatny, okrągły. słodka kawa zbożowa z mlekiem, karmel i nuty słodowe. kolor ciemny, klarowny, pod światło wiśniowy, piana beżowa, drobna, nawet trwała. w smaku pełne, dość słodowe, karmelowe. wyraźna kawa zbożowa z mlekiem, całość dość okrągła. goryczka niska, karmelowa, lekko ziołowa. nasycenie niskie do średniego.

Bottle 50cl. Black with a foamy beige head. Liquorice aroma with some sweet malt. First some sweet malt, then liquorice and finally the bitter hops. Nice schwarzbier, medium body and finish.

Bière bien noire avec une mousse ivoire à bulles très fines persistante sur quelques millimètres. Le nez est sur les céréales, avec une pointe de mélasse, de caramel, de levures... Odeurs de cave, de champignons. Pas terrible tout ça. Bière un peu flotteuse, carbonatation faible, la première gorgée révèle les houblons, des céréales torréfiés qui donnent dans le sarrasin et c’est à peu près tout. Texture un peu huileuse. Très franchement, on dirait de l’eau sale. Le bas du panier en matière de brunes Allemandes. J’arrive à peine à la finir, et pourtant je me force car par principe on ne jette pas une bière ! Ou alors juste pour la tambouille, et encore... Bouteille 50cl, V&B Grenoble.
