Can. This was surprisingly good, given it was from a can. Very subdued flavor, quite dry, only minimal sweetness, low bitterness and sourness. Caramel-like aroma but without the sweetness. Aroma is slightly malty, only hinting at roast, and with little in the way of hops. Crisp carbonation mid-sip gives this a cool, refreshing quality. Aftertaste is full but clean. There isn't that much range of characteristics in German beer styles, but I found relative to other Schwarzbiers, this seemed drier, lighter-bodied, and fresher / cleaner tasting. Very pleasant and easy to drink in quantity; I liked how I felt after drinking it.

floydslip (419) - Washington DC, USA - OCT 13, 2017
Dark cola-colored beer with a medium foamy light tan head. Nose of black coffee, milk chocolate, and smoke. Flavor is a bit more sweet with brown sugar, cola, and mocha finished with a slight chalky bitterness. Crisply carbonated, this is fairly light-bodied beer that still has a lot of flavor.

Piepenhenrich (1198) - Steinbach, GERMANY - OCT 7, 2017
Most famous and best-selling Schwarzbier in Germany, and indeed not bad at all. Good balance of its malty and bitter elements.

Köstritzer is pours a dark brown color with a red hue that shines through the glass. The head doesn’t last particularly long and leaves no lacing behind. The nose is malt-forward with notes of prunes and rye bread. The flavor follows the nose with gentle roasty bitterness, dark bread, dried dark fruits, and a caramel note without being too sweet. It's nicely balanced but maybe not as flavorful as expected. The mouthfeel is gentle as the carbonation is not particularly strong, but a little thin. The finish is somewhat short but pleasant if you like the heat from the alcohol well hidden. A casual rustic beer.

kustie (1281) - Tampere, FINLAND - SEP 8, 2017
Bottle. Opaque black color with tanned head. Aroma has caramel, dark roasted malt. Taste is malty sweet with quite long fairly dry aftertaste. Flavors of dark roasted malt, caramel, some bitter hops.
