Draught @ U Slovanske Lipy. I don’t know why it still surprises me, but I still wonder how it’s possible that my favourite Kout is the only one that does not do well over here. Above average effervescence in this hazy golden offering. What strikes is its immediate, pretty much extreme freshness as it approaches the nose. And I’m not even drinking it at the brewpub. Extremely fresh, bready, gently grainy, marvellously cerealic. Pils malt really is unmatched. Almost intensely soft maltiness if you follow me. Quite hoppier than an average 10 degrees, but exquisitely so with its bright floral, leafy, spicy touches that conclude with a rare lemony kiss that makes the difference and I wish was in every pilsner out there. I had the chance to have a sun ray from the window of the table I was sitting at. Taking the risk of skunking my beer (it was so easy to go for a second pint), I was brave and put the beer into the sunlight for a moment. A moment of heaven. UPDATED: MAR 13, 2012 Tap @ U Slovanske Lipy, Prague. Pours unclear hazy yellow with a large creamy white head and lacings. Yeast, hay, grass, herbs and some vague notes of citrus and lemon. Nose also has a bit of butter and buiscuit. Floral, crisp, dry and hoppy. Lovely. Another re-rate. Again fromtap at Lipy. This what I would drink 9/10 if I could. 4-4,2 auerbrau (3206) - Ithaca, New York, USA - JAN 31, 2014
On tap at Churchkey - Washington, DC. Crisp, herbal aroma, green, grassy and like steeped straw or silver needle white tea. Flavors capture me right away, soft dry minerals, granite and slate. Towards the end, it hits hard with bitterness, but after working through a sample (and later a full pint), it smooths down and integrates nicely. It has structure, but I would still call it dry. Lovely, light-hearted, clean and exactly what I always wish I could drink. I’m sure this is far from the best classic, unfiltered example of the style, but it’s what I hoped it could be. omhper (25955) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - JUL 4, 2008
