The best dark beer I have ever had. Note that I have only tried the Velkopopovcky Kozel Cerny brewed in the Czech Republic. This is the best dark beer in the world. Not too sweet no bite, just right. Of course, Velkopopovycky just won the gold medal in Belgium for best beer in all three categories: light, medium and dark. This should come as no surprise to people that actually know beer. I would also like to point out that in the Czech Republic, where Kozel comes from, 57% of the people prefer Cerny (dark) Kozel to medium, light or premium light. I agree with them. After all, Czechs drink more beer per capita than any other people in the world.

It pours a dark clear brown colored body with reddish tint. Big frothy beige head. Aroma of malts, caramel, burnt sugar and light grass. Taste is mainly malty sweet.

Bardzo ładny zapach. Czuć paloność i nieco coś na kształt czarnych części Oreo. Tu się plusy i uroki kończą. Dobre, ale dupy nie urywa.

Piwo o ciemnomiedzianej/rubinowej barwie, przejrzyste. Piana z początku okazała, gęsta, szybko opada do praktycznego zera. W aromacie słodowość, zapach ciemnego miodu - te nuty zdecydowanie dominują, w tle majaczą aromaty ciemnosłodowe. W smaku słodkość, kontrastująca z wodnistością. Dość wyraźna goryczka z palonych słodów, wg mnie nie pasująca do ogólnej słodkości i miodowości. Lekki chlebowy posmak. Alkohol niewyczuwalny, wysycenie całkiem wysokie, mało przyjemne, dość szybko zmniejszające się. Przypomina gorzkawy kwas chlebowy.

17. 5. 2017, Lunapark, Ljubljana. On tap. Malty sweetness overshadowing any bitterness from hops. Lightbodied and not too weighed down for dark beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml bottle. Pours a cola black with a lingering tan head. Aroma: strong aroma of roasted malt, and mild brown sugar/caramel. Taste: roasted malts dominate the flavour balance, with mild toffee/caramel tones. Mild sweetness followed by mild bitterness. Moderate carbonation. Watery texture. Good solid brew, and great when paired with roasted meat but not a complex flavour balance.
