3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bronzed peach. Scattered off-white foam. Unappealing gummy candy aromas prevail over lesser notes of vanilla cake, pecan, and breadcrust. Unpleasant hint of grape taffy and medicine, as well. Firm carbonation. Somewhat fuzzy. Flimsy body. Initially sweet and semi-tacky with a sharp alcohol embrace. Honey-drizzled biscuits dovetail with a crisper nuttiness, though the malt soon relinquishes much of its sturdiness to a wet-paper and damp hay limpness. Some appetizing hop spice does exude, as does a splash of sweetish nectar, though the hoppy brightness is overly subdued and thus fails to counteract the sugars. Meanwhile, grape candy continually deposits its artificial-tasting residue on the palate. Finishes faintly cookielike with a lively aniseedy spiciness, though predominantly flabby with a wet paper lifelessness. Late emergence of flowery hop spice salvages the finish as it links up with a stiff Munich crackle, though the grapey-ness is here to stay. Sort of a mixed bag. On one hand, it does occasionally showcase some delightful crisp-edged malt refinement reminiscent of cookie, breadcrust, pecan, etc., yet on the other hand, there is a pervasive gummy candy quality and even a touch of banana that really wreak havoc on the overall luster. A few adjustments here and there and this would be pretty solid, but far from Franconia’s best.
500ml Bottle - Golden/light amber in colour. Honey, grain and some biscuity notes in the aroma. Malty and slightly biscuity taste with notes of knckebrd, sultanas, dried apricot and caramel. SinH4 (6561) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - DEC 4, 2017
Bottle, very light gusher. Clear amber color with tan head. Aroma is cooked peas, cauliflower, honey malts - this is unfortunate. After a couple of minutes, the aroma got rid of the flavours that remind me of DMS. Taste is honey, bready, comparably sweet. Warming finish. Velvety mouthfeel with high, but very soft, carbonation. Maybe I should revisit this at some point. jonas (8278) - Garching close to the monks, GERMANY - DEC 4, 2017
Bottle. Amber, low carbonation, low head. Dusty, boiled grain and light corn, grassy hops. Fullbodied, chewy, mellow mouthfeel. Sweet grain, honey, fatty fruit, light Xmas spices, ok hop balance. Overall subdued, but quite quaffable. Fisler (785) - Bamberg, GERMANY - NOV 10, 2017
Frankonia Ratty Stuff.

Flasche 50cl. Heller Bock mit leichter Hefetrübung. Phenolische Note, irgendwie muffiger Geschmack. Im Abgang besser, süffiger. Seltsam. jredmond (8839) - New York, New York, USA - FEB 14, 2016
