A clear super dark reddish brown stout with a thick brown head. In aroma, smooth chocolate and licorice, fruity and pleasant. In mouth, a superb sweet milkey chocolate with licorice, coffee, alcohol warmth, very nice.

My Bottom Line :
Light bread and chocolate tones ride a lean mouthfeel and soft effervescence into a shortlived finish where roastiness and piney hops brush the palate.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A healthy head of foam draws lacing.
-Body is on the dry side despite the chocolate touch. This is far from dessert-like like most Chocolate Stouts.
-Drinkability is quite high, but the flavor profile is too unmemorable for me.
-For this type of flavor profile (balanced and subtle), Id prefer something in the 5% range.
-I dont know what the previous rater really drunk since I had the same first bottled batch and everything was faultless. As polished as can be for a first batch even, Id say.

Bottle.

pours dark brown with a decent light beige head, little retention. bretts (!) and sweet chocolate notes, medium roastiness. average carbonation, light body - watery mouthfeel, some sweetness along with some grassy-herbal notes, for a short finish. when infection is the best quality to the beer...

Trs ordinaire. 5/10

Bottle - 660ml. Pour an opaque black body with low carbonation and a thin beige foamy head. Malty/hoppy aroma with molasses and spicy hints. Taste is misbalanced and slightly dominated by cocoa flavors. Some woody and plummy notes are also noticeable. Ends with a decent, moderately warming, bittersweet finish.

Bottle 660ml. [Bottled 25 sept.2012] Pours very dark brown with pretty low beige head. Some lacing. Aroma is of nude alcohol, acidity, malt. A bit weird, brett reminescent (without the funk). Taste is of roasted malt (exposed), including acidity. Bitter, chocolate, yeast (uncommon), someone told me it was belgian yeast. Palate: astringent mouthfeel, dry. Medium-high body. Overall: An uncommon stout. As it has been said, its not what you would expect from a chocolate stout. Surprising at first, but not bad. Easily drinkable for a stout. I find that beer better than it appears, but one has to be quite open-minded and, indeed, get an uninfected bottle.

Bouteille 660ml.

660 ml bottle purchased at La Saucisserie BAM (La Saucisserie Ste-Rose) in Laval (Quebec) on November 20, 2012. Black, no head. Barley aroma with chocolate and licorice, a little dry. Licorice taste very dry and sour berries, hints of tobacco, burnt aftertaste! I tried to like it!
