UPDATED: SEP 17, 2017 Pours a dark reddish brown color with a dissipating foam head that leaves a fine layer of foam on top of this brew. The aroma is of sweet toasted caramel biscuits. It is a rather inviting scent. Tasting is of intense sweet caramel sugar that fades and is replaced by a mild bitterness with a hint of booze. The bread flavor is secondary to the sweetness. The flavor is good but not well balanced. Overall a descent brew to try if one loves barleywines. Aging a bottle might tame the flavor more. baraciisch (3375) - California, USA - JAN 3, 2017

Dark amber color. Light tan head.
Nose is dark fruits and burnt caramel. Lots of booze for 4 years old.
Taste is very vinous. Lots of dark fruits, red wine, and booze. A bit rough.
Syrupy and thick. Interesting but all over the board

2011 keg served at 2013 Winter Solstice. I think it was labeled at 14.7% on the board. Pours a murky brown with a thin head that lingers a bit. Aroma is pretty awesome, caramel, dark bread, cherries, citrus, toffee, and very light chocolate. Taste brings out some sweet caramel apples, lots of toffee and brown sugar, and cherries. Light chocolate in the slight boozy finish. Very smooth for the high abv. Thick and chewy mouthfeel. The BB version is better but this is still great. tectactoe (3125) - Michigan, USA - DEC 23, 2013
[Tap / 2011 / ~2 years old] deep brown & copper body, essentially opaque with a light-tan film stretched thinly across the top. Aroma has notes of sticky caramel, toffee, baked bread, light figs, cocoa dust, & some very mild brown sugar. Taste is sweet, as expected, following through with more caramel, toffee, prunes, toasted bread, faint apple notes, & sticky brown sugar. Definitely a notable hoppiness on the palate that wasn’t perceived on the nose (especially for being two years old); grassy hops with a slight dirty/earthy aspect to them. Aftertaste of sticky sweet toffee. Missing some of the complexity of Kuhnhenn’s barrel aged barleywine, but this is still a very fine example of the style, albeit a little generic. crossovert (13908) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 21, 2013

On tap at Kuhnhenn Winter Solstice. Vintage 2011. The pour is a beautiful off red. It’s got hints of orange and some darker parts to it work a bright off white head that leaves a spotty lace on the glass. The aroma carries a nice complex fruitiness, that’s masked by a good caramel note and a sound maltiness. The flavor carries through the same motion but the booziness in the taste warms all the way down the throat. It’s a very good barleywine. 12oz bottle, 2010 vintage. Rating #48. Clear dark copper pour with a beige head. Mild toffee aroma, a little sweet with some caramel as well. Bitter and a little sour, more caramel and a touch of sweetness, but just that hint of sour is kind of a turn off. (2809)
