Slightly hazy red - brown beer. Short lived white head. Semi dry palate. Rich malt but it’s not creamy. Some fruity Port Wine character with a little marmite and molasses. Finishes dry with a little fruit. Not what I was expecting at all! Hides the alcohol well.
Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of Doodler. Pours amber with a slight haze and a small off-white head. Sweet overripe fruit in the nose, somewhat oxidized. Solid body. subtle carbonation, oxidized wood, caramel with a slightly tart edge. Warming alcohol finish. Decent but probably pretty old. 190412 jtclockwork (17101) - , New Jersey, USA - MAY 3, 2011
Bottle. Pours reddish brown with long lasting thin tan head. Nose of candi sugar, caramel and toffee. Taste of same. Alcohol in finish. Some dark fruits and dark grains in mouth feel. brokensail (16633) - Dublin, California, USA - MAR 21, 2011
A: The full bottle pours perfectly into my Hair of the Dog tulip. Dark amber in color with a finger of khaki colored head with some spotty lacing.
S: Starts off with caramel and toffee on the nose. A hint of booze comes through, not surprising for a beer that’s north of 11% ABV. Some definitely fruitiness to it, maybe some pineapple along with grapefruit.
T: Warming alcohol to go with what is mostly bread and toffee. This probably could have used some more time as there is quite a bit of green apple flavor. Some other fruit notes like blackberries. Maybe a little chocolate on the finish. Unfortunately, it’s sort of watery.
M: Thin in body and a touch watery. Carbonation is low to medium.
O: Amazing how much better the barrel aged one is. Not an awful barleywine, but not my favorite either. Theis (15152) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 24, 2012
Bottle at Papsø’s - Thanks. Clear amber/red - white head. Amber malts, toasted, fruity, knækbrød, barley, sweetness, oxidation, light hoppy, cookies, light boozy, dried fruits, port, light bread notes, light alcoholic and sweet finish. Tmoney99 (14866) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 1, 2011
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate toasted caramel malt and resin hop aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a complex good beer.
