Nice amber look with frosty finish. Nice undertone flavor of nuts with an aroma of sweet flowers. This goes well with the energetic flavors tkrjukoff (4335) - SWEDEN - AUG 10, 2011
Bottle 33 cl 2 Kuhnhenn Warren, MI. Pours beautiful deep ruby copper with a nice tanned head leaving lace. Aroma is fullbodied sweet, malty, fruity, caramel, raisins, bready and fidges. Flavor is in front a sweet and malty with acetonic touch, on backmore tart bitter hoppy, sweet fruity, caramel and vinous. Quite nice indeed. Finishes vinous, tart bitter and fruity. Like this one, not too sweet, has nice vinous touch and with medium body still very drinkable. Sikash (240) - North Carolina, USA - JAN 7, 2013
Pours a nice amber color with minimal head into tasting glass. Minimal but nice aroma of malt and dark fruit. Flavor is super sweet with notes of dark fruit, malt, caramel, toffee with a distinct bourbon flavor. Mouthfeel is full with below average carbonation. Overall a delicious beer. koleminer20 (3591) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - DEC 21, 2013
On tap at Kuhnhenn Winter Solstice. Vintage 2011. The pour is a beautiful off red. It’s got hints of orange and some darker parts to it work a bright off white head that leaves a spotty lace on the glass. The aroma carries a nice complex fruitiness, that’s masked by a good caramel note and a sound maltiness. The flavor carries through the same motion but the booziness in the taste warms all the way down the throat. It’s a very good barleywine. The mouth feel is very solid, and the flavors linger beautifully ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone punkrkr27 (903) - Berkley, Michigan, USA - SEP 25, 2010
Copper pour with a slight ruby highlight and a small, short-lived, white head. Lots of sweet fermented dark fruit in the nose with notes of brandy, citrus zest, and some floral hops. Sweet orange liqueur flavor with lots of alcohol, boozy figs, cognac, and some peppery phenols on the finish. Seems much more like and English style than an American style. Sticky, medium body with low carbonation.

2011 keg served at 2013 Winter Solstice. I think it was labeled at 14.7% on the board. Pours a murky brown with a thin head that lingers a bit. Aroma is pretty awesome, caramel, dark bread, cherries, citrus, toffee, and very light chocolate. Taste brings out some sweet caramel apples, lots of toffee and brown sugar, and cherries. Light chocolate in the slight boozy finish. Very smooth for the high abv. Thick and chewy mouthfeel. The BB version is better but this is still great. markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - AUG 9, 2010
Wow. Thanks to goryshkewych for hooking this one up. Pours brown with an off-white head. Nose is complexity incarnate: malt, booze, ripe fruits, brown sugar, depth, and a slew of sweetness. Flavor is similar and does not disappoint. A bit boozy and medium bodied. A nice sipper or digestif. Ibrew2or3 (8614) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - AUG 22, 2010
Courtesy of markwise. Pours clear copper with thin off white head. The aroma is modest in strength offering up a thin ribbon of dark fruity esters, a mild caramel note and a touch of booze at the end of the draw. The taste is smooth with sweet malts moving into prunes, raisins and cherries. It then becomes sweeter with a layer of caramel as well as modest layers of citrus like notes such as tangelo and pineapple. Yum! BMan1113VR (7931) - Los Angeles, California, USA - SEP 18, 2010
2010 bottle thanks to goryshkewych. Poured into a snifter. Pours with a minimal tan head over a hazy amber body. Aroma of raisins, currants, leather, alcohol, caramel, greenery, and plums. Flavors of caramel, toffee, bitterness, marmalade, jam, currants, raisins, decadence. Really a pretty solid young barley wine. Alcohol is well hidden. Someone trade me a bottle of the (hopefully) up coming barrel aged version, cause that will be awesome! Small bubbles, big body, classic!
Pairs excellently with the veal paprikash I had for dinner! Dogbrick (13010) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 25, 2011
Sample at the brewpub. This beer is a ruddy orange color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, fruit and hops. Full body with flavors of grainy malt, hops, caramel and fruit. The finish is hoppy up front and leaves a lingering citrusy hops aftertaste. Good Barley Wine overall.
