4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle bought at Kuhnhenn Winter Soltice 2012,
this beer had a black-brown pour that made a one finger tan colored head that receded to a spotty cover and ring, this drink was opaque and I could not see any carbonation, I saw some bubbles flowing up the sides of the glass, it left some spots and fingers of lacing on the glass, there was a thin layer of dark brown sediment and a dark thicker ring of sediment on the bottom of the bottle,
this Impy had aromas of roasted malt, barrel aging sweetness, chocolate, chocolate cake mix, liquor notes,
brown sugar, molasses and liquor sweetness,
it had flavors of malt and liquor sweetness, chocolate, brown sugar, malt and liquor sweetness, a little roasted malt bitterness that added a little balance to the sweetness in this drink,
the finish was sweet with some roasted malt (but not much balance to the sweetness, it carries on afterwards), there was a little tingle and warmth on the throat from the alcohol, this did not take away from the enjoyment of this drink,
the sweetness was out front in this beer,
the mouth feel was medium to thick with a little creamy feel, and the carbonation was soft to average,
this was a big barrel aged Impy beer, the nose was nice, the flavor had a big sweetness, the 18% alc. was hidden well in this drink, this beer had a nice blend of roasted malt and barrel aging sweetness, a nice sipping drink for a cold evening.
Bottle, 2012 vintage. Pours a motor oil black beer with a small brown head on top that disappears quickly. Aroma of oak, caramel, booze, roast and molasses. Licorice in there, bourbon and wood notes as well. Flavor is intense, rich full and strong. Heavy on the sweet side, cloying thick alcohol, lots of barrel, lots of booze, lots of caramel. No bitterness whatsoever. Carbonation is very soft, sticky silky mouthfeel, long sweet aftertaste and nice boozy buzz. Very nice stuff!! hopdog (12833) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 11, 2016
12oz bottle. 2012 vintage. Poured a black color with a small sized tan head. Vanilla, chocolate, bourbon, woody, and roast. koleminer20 (3798) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - SEP 24, 2015
From notes. Enjoyed on September 19 at Travis’ house. Poured from a 12 oz bottle. 2012 vintage, I believe. The pour on this baby is a ruby based dark brown with a thin collar of light khaki colored head that vanishes quickly. The aroma is much more reserved compared to the regular. There is a great malt presence, a nice roast, chocolate, dark fruits, a nice bourbon presence to go along with a nice oak and vanilla barrel character. I love it. The flavor is similar. There is a heavy bourbon in the flavor, but the others are there in more of a noticeable fashion than with the regular. The chocolate and roasted malt are good. The dark fruits also make a solid appearance with a light vanilla on the finish. The mouth feel is thinner than the regular, but with a nice carbonation and a lingeringly boozy roasty aftertaste. Good beverage. Ratman197 (15113) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - JUL 3, 2015
Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of bourbon, roasted malt, dark chocolate, vanilla and light oak. Palate was medium bodied and sooth. Flavors of bourbon, roasted malt, cocoa, fruitiness and light oak with a smooth lingering bourbon finish. Benzai (16251) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - APR 28, 2015

Bottle (35cl): Thanks Beerlistman: Served in a Chouffe glass at 13 degrees Celsius:
Black with a brown head.
Aromas of amazing bourbon notes with some deep smooth roast: vanilla, some pure prunes, mocha, liquorice, butterscotch, wood, roast, toffee, some chocolate, truffles, cacoa, liquor, bay leaf, slight hints of butter, marzipan, cacoa and praline.
Flavours of bitters, roast, bourbon, vanilla, liquorice, coffee, light spice, wood, light sweet tones (overpowerd by the bitters, bourbon and roasty notes), some malt roast, wood roast, raisin, prunes, chocolate, toffee, caramel, sweet tar... Delicious!
Aftertaste is bitter, malt roast, hay roast, prunes/raisin, wood, liquorice, some bourbon, coffee and a sprinkle of chocolate.
Low carbo, silky mouthfeel, full and smooth bodied.
Amazingly balanced for 18%ABV. One of the best Barrel Aged beers I have tasted so far! Just awesome! burg326 (5577) - Florida, USA - JAN 4, 2015
Poured a black color with a tan head with aromas of fudge, bourbon, vanilla, and light roast. Flavors are half backed brownies with vanilla and bourbon. Very tasty and vanillay, and bourbony. I love this and drink a lot of this. Prufrockstar (2132) - Moscow, Idaho, USA - NOV 8, 2014
12oz bottle, shared with my wife after one of her long, intense shifts that require decompression. With the first sip she exhaled with a "mmmmmm, that’s delicious." So yeah, my hopes are high. Pours thick viscous black with ring of tan head. Aroma: graham cracker, grain, vanilla, chocolate syrup and toasted grains. Taste: Intense, rich, and surprisingly smooth. Beyond what’s present in the nose, there’s also dark fruit and a vinous component reminiscent of Dark Horizon. Sweet with a minimal roast finish. Warming alcohol, but not nearly so much as 18% should lend. Palate: full body, soft carbonation, rich and velvety. Overall: this is intense, rich, and delicious. 12oz bottle from 2012 courtesy of my sister, ratebeer’s 15_2_Kuhnhenn, pours with a deep dark oily sticky looking blackness that really has no head. The aroma comes across with chocolate bar, boozy fudge brownie, soma vanilla and molasses. The taste is smooth and rich and getting rather intense to midway. Wow! I get chocolate goodness, some burnt malts swimming in a sea of molasses and then a bit of vanilla. This is a smooth rich intense sipper that only offers up a mild barrel character, which works well for me. BiiruBierBeer (1056) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - SEP 20, 2014
Heavy bourbon smell. Taste is moderate to heavy alcohol, dark chocolate, and raisin.
