12oz bottle (2009) from Secret Santa 2010 Blairgus (4615) - California, USA - MAR 12, 2011
Appearance: Pours muddy dark brown with a small beige head and very little lacing
Aroma: Toasted malts, caramel, brown sugar, oak and vanilla <r>
Taste: Sweet malts, caramel, bourbon and hot alcohols
Very nice. The aroma was awesome, but the taste was sweet malts and hot alcohols. I wonder if another year of aging would have helped mellow it out.
dark amber colour, clear, no bubbles
what a neat aroma. it’s a mix of mouldy cheddar cheese and bourbon. and a quite strong, dominant nose
full body and very syrupy and very little carbonation
really rich and sweet. taste is primarily bourbon. i’m not finding any of the cheese i found on the nose.
bourbon beers are great but you have to be prepared. very heavy and sweet. but great faroeviking (11331) - Chupando chellas es como ellas, FAROE ISLANDS - MAR 15, 2011
kuh bo ba bar....de botella. 2010 version. Deep amber colour. Sweet malty dark fruity woody alco bourbon aroma. Good thick sticky mouthfeel. Sweet dark malty, caramel and dark fruity vanilla flavour, bit nutty, some alcohol. Goes great with vanilla ice cream, thanks Plovmand. RCL (2032) - Waltham, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 28, 2011
Rich, vanilla and coconut caramel aroma. The flavor is slightly warming but no other indication of the high ABV - really well integrated - toffee, more coconut: not as complex as the aroma. SamGamgee (2585) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - MAY 15, 2011
Bottles from both 2010 and 2008. Very similar overall. Lots of smooth, rich, caramelly malt and bourbon flavors tied together with a present alcohol that stays away from hot and harsh. Hops aren’t really part of the equation. A little dried fruit and honey, but oxidation character is mild. Almost more liqueur than beer, with a viscous body and low carbonation. Nice sipper is small doses.

Have had this a couple of times, latest one from a BA trader. Hazy amber brown with a smallish beige head. Aroma is lots of dark fruit and caramel, boozy bourbon, oak, toffee and light oxidization. Flavor is lots of sweet caramel malt and fruit with light tanic oak and an alcohol warming. Medium body with soft carbonation and a slightly syrupy mouth feel. This is a big, sweetish, boozy Barley Wine, very nice, probably ages very well. sloth (2955) - Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA - JUN 14, 2012
Thin tan head thats short lived, little lace. Clear, mahogany colored brew, ruby edging. Nose is boozy, whisky, dark fruits, grain. Full bodied with a soft carbonation, chewy, slick on the palate, oily. Whisky/boozy notes balancing out the malty sweetness, notes of caramel and dark fruit, plum, raisin, gentle woody notes, vanilla and cocoa, lil earthy. Warm, lasting finish. Surprisingly decent. Bottle from WeisGuy. drfabulous (8802) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - JUL 26, 2012
12 ounce thanks to MP. Big and boozy. Not so much bourbon but strong whiskey aroma and taste. Caramel. Tons of brown sugar. It’s a big boozy sweet beer. Intense. I probably should have shared. queenholly (3623) - South Whitley, Indiana, USA - MAR 10, 2013
Bottle 2011 courtesy of FlandersNed. Bourbon, wood, and barley malt aroma. Murky chestnut with a minimal head. Syrupy sweet molasses and barley malt flavor - like a molasses cookie. Nice smooth bourbon flavor, without being hyper boozy and overpowering. Full sticky body. jookos (7155) - FINLAND - MAY 16, 2014
Tap @ CBC14-red. Dark mahogany. Very bourbony vanilla, rich plummy malty nose. Full body. Soft, with raisins, caramel sweetness. Bourbony oaky vanilla. Bit too much though.
