2010 vintage shared by bsuedekum- thanks a ton, Blake! Pours a flat, somewhat murky brown-amber color with basically no head or carbonation. Incredible aroma of bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark fruits (plums, raisins, figs), caramel malts, toasted brown sugar, and some warming alcohol that really sits in the nostrils. I can’t stop smelling this. Flavor of bourbon, dark fruits, tea, caramel malts, vanilla, oak, earth, tannins, toasted sugar, and warming alcohol that sits in the chest. Medium-bodied, with minimal carbonation, and a smooth, sweet, boozy mouthfeel. Coats the palate. The 13.5% ABV doesn’t overwhelm but is certainly present. Truly an incredible beer. Sampled at DLD. Thanks for the share. Very dark with small head. Taste of brown sugar and other really dark fruits. Hint of oak. Very well done. Boutip (6336) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 17, 2011
Bottle: Poured a dark amber color ale with a tiny foamy head with limited retention and no lacing. Aroma of bourbon is quite intense with lots of brown sugar notes and light dry fruits. Taste is dominated by bourbon notes with light alcohol ester and some brown sugar with dry raisins notes. Body is quite full with medium to low carbonation and some alcohol was apparent. Interesting and very intense and complex but still a notch below the regular version.

2010 Vintage 12oz Bottle; Pour is like caramel in color with a modest khaki head that does not retain particularly well into this snifter. This brew has a fantastic nose - caramel, toffee, dark fruits, but honestly; bourbon dominates. The flavor profile is more developed for me - The tasting notes list toasted marshmallow and I think that is modestly accurate for me - Its generally on the sweet side; its fairly viscous in spite of the lighter than expected coloration - dark fruits, vanilla, oak, bourbon, warming alcohol, and brown sugar - this one seemed a bit too boozy to balance perfectly; otherwise a fantastic brew and my first Kuhnhenn riversideAK (6260) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - JUN 15, 2011
Big huge dark fruity on the nose, lots of bourbon, wood, sweet toffee, caramel, sugar. Dark reddish brown, not much in the way of head, but nice legs and definitely a viscous one. Flavors of dark fruit, bourbon, caramel, residual sugars. Hot alcohol but nice sweetness. Definitely in the Kuhnhenn mold. Mild carbonation, huge body, lingering sweet/hot. Good. Appearance : Clear mahogany, no head.
Aroma : Intense bourbon with lots of raisins and licorice.
Taste : Intense bourbon with sweet raisins and licorice. Lots of bourbon on the finish with quite a lot of alcohol. Light soy sauce.
Overall : Very intense woah ! 1 ounce is more than enough to sample this. Very nice richness. I really liked the intense raisins notes. Bourbon felt a bit too intense though. Nice finish. Interesting but I wouldn’t seek this again. I personally look for more balance in bourbon barrel aged beers. A hard one to rate as it is very tasty and complex but after 1 ounce I’m done...
Bottle sampled at Mondial de la bière 2011. Dark amber with a thin beige head. Aroma is very woody with vanilla, bourbon sugar, biscuity, caramel, dark fruits and alcohol. Flavor is also quite woody with bourbon, brown sugar, dark malt, caramel, alcohol, dark fruits and a lot of residual sugars (a bit too much). Full body with a liquorous mouthfeel. Very sweet!
