This one poured a murky brown color with a beige head. Aroma was of caramel, dark fruits, and spices, similar to a fruitcake. Flavor was more of the fruity side, very sweet, a lot like medicinal cherry cough syrup. Not too good. superspak (6500) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - MAY 19, 2013
12 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, 2012 winter Solstice bottling. Pours hazy deep ruby brown color with a small foamy off white head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin lace that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big raspberry, cherry, cranberry, raisin, orange peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, spice cake, brown sugar, and licorice. Fantastic aromas with great balance and complexity of fruit notes with malt and moderate spices. Taste of raspberry, raisin, cherry, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange peel, spice cake, brown sugar, clove, and licorice. Lingering notes of dark fruits, brown sugar, spice cake, cinnamon, nutmeg, and licorice on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of fruit flavors with big malt sweetness and moderate spices; no cloying sweetness after the finish surprisingly. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a slick and syrupy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent and unique winter warmer style. Big robustness and nice balance of fruity, malt, and spice flavors; and quite smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering. thirdeye11 (6162) - Dallas, Texas, USA - JAN 29, 2013
(12oz bottle thanks to blutt59) clear rich copper, soapy white bubbles. Nose of cherry, urinal cakes, sweet fruit, one dimensional. Taste of cherry cough drops, medicinal, dark wheat, raisin, pumpernickel bread. Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - MAR 24, 2013
Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle.
The beer pours a reddish-brown color with an off-white head. The aroma is very heavy on the cherries. The flavor is similar with a few additions. There is still a good bit of cherry character, but I also get some nice maple, oak and vanilla notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. chibuck (3521) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 21, 2011
Draft... Smells like bread, oranges, and wort, interesting... Tastes is rough, orange peel, spices, not for me

UPDATED: OCT 30, 2014 Bottle from Winter Soltice. Pours a very murky dark ruby color with no head. Aroma is a mix of cherry cough syrup, caramelized sugar, and bread. Taste is big on cherry cough syrup. Sugary sweet and a slightly boozy finish. Medium body, somewhat sticky mouthfeel. Not bad but not exactly good either. Re-rate 10/23/14 - Bottle almost 2 years old now. Thanks Tammy! Taste and smell no longer come off like cough syrup. Still sugary sweet but in a good way. Packed with fruit cake and light booze. Alot better now than fresh. Original rate was 6/3/6/4/12. Silphium (3293) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - APR 12, 2011
6th Annual MBG Winter Beer Festival, Grand Rapids. Sweet, fruitcake nose, with spice (anise, fennel), candied fruit, and a soapy medicinal bitterness in the body. Strange. If I drank a full glass I suspect this would score lower. tgncc (3156) - Bellmore, New York, USA - APR 18, 2011
The aroma is spicy, fruitcake, booze. The appearance is hazy orange, small head
The flavor isl spicy, ginger, cinnamon, fruit. The finish is spicy, light pine

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2014 Bottle: 2012. Thanks, Tammy. Rich, dark chestnut color with not much head, almost a completely bare top after a few moments. Aroma of fruity, jelly candy & light fruit cake. Lightly tart & modestly sweet raspberry notes with some other berry aromas, toasted nuttiness, & Skittles! No, seriously, lots of fruity candy. The taste is fruit cake. Seriously, bready & light toast, some raspberry, cherry, faint raisin, some caramel, light honey, toasted pecans, mild woodsy notes.... This is seriously like a Christmas dessert. Golden California raisin & toasted cakey finish. Sweet, desserty, & lathered in mild berry syrup. This is unique, & it’s pretty tasty. wedgie9 (2703) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - APR 2, 2014
Tasted on 4/1/14 from a capped 12oz bottle sent as an extra in a trade. Pours almost completely opaque dark ruby with a thin beige head that quickly disappears. The nose is really dominated by sweet dried fruit, raisin, with plenty of toffee and caramel. The flavor is cola sweet with the same dried fruit, a combination of dark date and raisin, with red cherry and berry, with the same caramel on the back. The body is full with above average, fizzy carbonation and a long caramel and dried fruit finish.
