On cask at GTMW - Pours dark brown with a ring of white head. Malty and dark bread on the nose, with very little hop presence. Taste is mostly the same, with dark bread, a light nuttiness, and minimal hop presence. It’s really smooth--all the flavors are mellow and there’s no harshness. I would drink a ton of this in a session. Smooth, well-carbonated, and velvety. I’d love to see how this fares next to others in the style, but it stood out at the fest. Cask at Great Taste. One of my favorite beers of the fest. Pours a deep mahoggany with minimally head. Nose is nice, toasty malts, some roast and a touch of fruity yeast character. On tasting, light and refreshing with a firm dark malt character and softness to it. Dry finish from the roasted malts. This is spot on for how I like my milds. Lovely. Cask on tap at Great Taste of the Midwest 2011 (Madison, WI). Pours a nice deep brownish amber hue, decent haze, frothy loose offwhite head dies to a film, laces near nothing. Aromas are carmelized malts, dark roast, earthy and roast, touches of toast, peanuts. Some dryness, intiial is very light bodied, crisp roast and toast, carmelized malts, earth, touch of ash. Sampled on cask at GTMW 2011. Glad this was still kicking 3 hours into the festival. Pours a hazy dark copper color with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of nutty notes and toffee. The taste is earthy, nutty and toffee notes. Medium bodied. Nice.
