3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Brewery, served in a shaker,
this beer had a hazy dark brown and red pour, it gave a one finger off-white head that receded to a thin cover, it left nice lacing on the glass as I drank,
this drink had aromas of toasted malt with some dark malt notes and faint chocolate,
it had flavors that were the same as the aroma with a hint of caramel, a little malt and bread sweetness, faint raisin fruit in the background, there was a little bitterness after the finish,
the mouth feel was less than medium, it was creamy with average carbonation,
I enjoyed this drink, the aroma and flavors were nice.
On tap at Kuhnhenn’s Brew Pub. Poured a deep amber / brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Caramel, chocolate, some breadiness, and some toasted nuts. umich03jm (3512) - Flat Rock, Michigan, USA - NOV 12, 2012
Sample draft at the brewery. Pours a cloudy copper color with a nice frothy head that lingers. Aroma is nut bread, caramel, cola, dark fruit, and raisins. Taste has a slight sweetness to start and finishes fairly tart. Lots of dark fruit, raisins, and cola. Medium body and very sticky mouthfeel. A very interesting beer, I haven’t had many altbiers so it’s hard to compare. This is pretty tasty but I’m not a fan of the tart finish. mikem409 (2029) - bloomfield, Michigan, USA - OCT 24, 2012

Draft at Hopcat. Poured clear brown color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate complex roasted malt and sour citrus aroma. Medium body with a slick texture. Moderate balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of average duration. Good drinkable brew. kmweaver (3208) - Petaluma, California, USA - SEP 19, 2008
Draft @ HopCat. Pours a deep, clear amber-brown color; light tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Solid amounts of dried dark fruits, caramel, and citrus bitterness in the aroma; restrained, pleasant maltiness with some cola notes. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: oily, with solid amounts of viscosity; nicely developed malt core showing dried dark fruits (dates, raisins), caramel, and cola; a citrus bitterness along the perimeter of the tongue balances things out nicely; a very solid, tasty altbier. Medium finish: toasty malts, citrus, and slight sweetness. Silphium (3198) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - JUL 28, 2008
On tap at HopCat, Grand Rapids. Deep red-brown body, medium tight cream head. Leafy aroma with bitter chocolate notes. Roasty body with burnt fall leaves, dark fruits (red grapeskins, cherry), burnt brown sugar, and toasty malt, quite vinous and tannic, with modest alcohol notes. Herbal, tannic finish. Crisp with perfect heft. An excellent Alt.
