4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 5, 2010 Don’t know what the last few raters of this were drinking, but it definitely wasn’t the same thing. Small snifter via Kuhnhenn brewery, Pours a dark mahogany with medium tannish slight red head. Aroma of various dried and tart fruits, toasted malt, caramel, cane sugar, slight chocolate and molasses. and just a hint of bourbon. Flavor is no surprise but makes for a pleasant sipper. ABV definitely starts to sink in.
Bottle. 2010 vintage. Poured a brown color with a small sized off white head. Caramel, candi sugar, dark fruits, some vinous qualities, and wood. tectactoe (3125) - Michigan, USA - JAN 22, 2015
Tap @ Kuhnhenn: 2010 vintage keg, somewhere around 3 years aged. Woody-brown color, nearly opaque in the center with brighter edges. Not much head at all, just a small, outlining tan collar. Aroma is commanding, powerful, boozy, & sweet. Rich grapes, boozy oak, bourbon soaked raisins, sweet toffee lather, deep cocoa towards the finish. A little bit of anise, vanilla, & prune. Body is enormous... Thick, creamy, chewy, viscous. Sticky, boozy dates up front followed by sweet plums, almost with a hint of dark fruity tartness, coated with brown sugar, brandy, & toffee, served on a platter of woody oak. Light notes of licorice, anise, burnt nuts, & wood in the finish. Aftertaste is lacquered all over the palate & back of my teeth. A huge beer. Tons of flavor & complexity. While any serving size above six ounces just seems silly, this beer is really nice to savor in smaller amounts. I like it. jredmond (8445) - New York, New York, USA - NOV 18, 2013
Draft at Torst with Andrew and Andy. Pours a deep brown mahogany body with no head. Aroma is prune, putrid fruits, caramel and a strange buttery character. Mouthfeel is medium with notes vanilla, caramel, prune, apples, bourbon and oak. The aroma seemed really off. Godofthecellar (677) - NYC, New York, USA - NOV 14, 2013
Smell of sweet caramel and bourbon. Sugar, whisky char, dark fruit, caramel apple b3shine (9019) - Indiana, USA - SEP 12, 2013
Bottle to sniffer (shared by alexsdad06). Looks good for the style; a semi-transparent amberish brown with thin light beige lacing and soft carbonation. Smells buttery and cheesy with a touch of wine. Tastes like it smells, only better, with notes of caramel and a sweet malt backbone. Solid but not spectacular.

12oz bottle, shared by alexsdad06. 2010 vintage, labeled 15.5%. Dark brown / red color, mostly clear. Minimal head. Some dark fruit, light cardboard in the nose. Bigger body. Very light carbonation. Dark fruit in the flavor, light caramel malt. Some spice. Tastes a bit oxidized. Moderate sweet taste. Only a hint of warmth in the finish. Best thing about this beer is how well it hides the alcohol, pretty impressive. Flavor isn’t very inspiring right now, though. ICEatALAMO (1351) - Troy, Michigan, USA - JUN 23, 2013
'10 draft. The pour is a dark amber with little head. The aroma is sweet plum with some booze. The taste is bitter and a little metallic. The sweetness does come through.

Bottle 2010 vintage poured a clear reddish amber with a lingering ring of amber head. Aromas of plums, dates, carmel, toffee and light tobacco. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a warming finish. Flavors of carmel, toffee, plum and raisin with a crisp warming lingering fruity finish. Keir (183) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - JAN 2, 2013
@ brewery. Clear, dark amber with little head. Nose of alcohol with a slight fruitiness. Tastes fruity, a bit sour, a peppery bite, and alcohol burn. Creamy feel. 04/22/10 PhillyCraft (7584) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 16, 2012
2010 bottle, my bottle said 15.5% alcohol. Shared with a bunch of friends at Bill/Franks "end of the world" tasting. One of the top big beers of the night next to the ’05 Darklord and ’05 Gratitude. Red-brown pour, slightly clearish accompanied by very thin head. Aroma and taste of dark cherry, caramel malt, bourbon, oak, vanilla, toffee. I thought it was boozey but others said it was tamed for the amount. Guess I am not used to drinking stuff this heavy on a regular basis. Really nice barleywine though.
