On tap at Kuhnhenn Brewpub. Black with a thin brown head. Aroma is roasty with dark malts, barley, and light chocolate and coffee. Taste of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, grains and a touch of alcohol. Semi-sweet and a touch chalky but overall pretty good.
Pour on tap at the brewery, dark black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of roast, smoke, cocoa, some anise into some dark fruit, some spice. Taste was a nice mix of anise, dark fruit, and smoke into some roast, slight coffee, finishing slightly sweet. Nice version of the style. JStax (7186) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - MAY 23, 2016
Draft pour at the source into a brandy snifter. The beer is a dark brown with a khaki head of foam. The aroma has rich coffee and creme brûlée notes. Toasted nuts, toffee, caramel. Rich sweetness in the taste. Medium to big body and medium carbonation. Really caught off guard with how good this beer is. SG111 (2034) - New York, USA - AUG 8, 2015
UPDATED: NOV 5, 2016 Tap at the source. Pours black, with a nice tan head. Aroma is lots of chocolate, espresso, roasted malt. Flavor is roasted malt. Chocolate. Kinda watery for its abv. Nice coffee bitterness in the finish. That is a nice quality. chucklemation (1764) - Royal Oak, Michigan, USA - JUN 30, 2015

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, licorice, chocolate, caramel and coffee. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long licorice, coffee and chocolate finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
On tap at Church Key, DC. A more or less black one, topped by a dense beige head. The aroma is rather roasted, almost burnt, with some dark dried fruit. It’s super smooth in the mouth, full bodied and semi-dry. Roasted malts, dark chocolat, some coffee grit and a roasted malt kind of bitterness in the lasting finish. Perhaps a bit sweet and burnt, but it’s a fine brew indeed. 150620 solidfunk (9409) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - JUN 16, 2015
Nice stuff. Lits of musky peat like roast with hints of smoke. Well balanced. Bitter finish. Hints of coffee. Black pour without much head or lacing. Tap at Churchkey. GenDV138 (7708) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - JUN 8, 2015

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2015 Tap @ Kuhnhenn: Dark as hell, completely black with no light shining through. Head is a few shades deeper than tan, slow to form, & quick to settle as a thick ring around the glass. Moderate lacing. Super roasty aroma. Burnt malts, char, strong nuttiness, faint smoke, espresso, & the lightest hint of cream-like sweetness hidden way in the periphery. Flavor is a nice 50/50 mix of burnt, roasted malts & hefty, woodsy nuts. Moderate char, scorched coffee beans, & burnt brown sugar adds just a hint of sweetness. Back-end opens up with light notes of licorice & dark plum. Ashy, roasty, charcoal finish with a touch of booze coming through for warmth. Hearty, robust, creamy mouth feel. Good stuff.
