tap. Black with small head. Like a stout with huge citrus hops. Very 3 Floyds-ish, which is to say it’s awesome.

Very good. Not a typical black ipa due to the minimal roasted flavors and more.of a sweet sugar taste. Other than that this is very tasty. Pours black with minimal head. Aroma is pine notes and plum. Taste is some roasted notes on caramel and pine and bitter dry finish. Very light on the body and light carbonation. I liked it a lot though. Deep black beer topped by a thick tan head. The nose is very roasty and herbal. Lots of chewy/earthy hop aroma over a soft dry roasted malt base. Fairly sweet with lots of base malt coming though (low attenuation?) Soft and earthy with a fairly assertive character on the back. Warming doesn’t really add any sort of lightness like I might expect. It’s okay, but it’s not great. I like the citrusy stuff better. Assertive bitterness. On tap at HopCat, Grand Rapids. Deep opaque brown body with reddish highlights, thick beige head. Plummy nose with berries and sprucy hops. Sweet body, dominated by brown sugar, caramel, and berries with spruce needle hops notes that play second fiddle to the malts. Warming alcohol in the finish. Atypically sweet and malt-driven for the style. HonkeyBra (4044) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - DEC 26, 2010
On tap at the Hopcat in Grand Rapid, Michigan. Dark blackish pour with tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, pine, sone mousse. Some licorice, other herbal bitterness. Flavor is chocolatey, bitterness is medium. Airy, nice mouthfeel. Pretty good beer.

Tap at Pony bar. Pours a deep dark brown near black with a thin lasting tan head. Aroma is nutty, light roast, some bittersweet chocolate and coffee, with grassy, herbal hops, some citrus and pine but not too hoppy. Flavor is chocolate, nuts, toast, roast, coffee, grass, pine, leather, earth, citrus, light orange oils and sap in the end- finish is mostly clean and a slight sweetness. Alcohol seemed hidden ok. Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. 1.5X IPA strength, and also with chocolate and a little roast in the aroma. Double take as if its a hoppy imperial stout, so had to order a second half pint. Complex, carbonation is right. Almost opaque Dark brown colour with 3/8" head. Above average creamy mouthfeel. ogglethorp (919) - Ohio, USA - NOV 1, 2010
On tap. Pours nearly black with a soapy beige colored head. Aroma is piney, some ctrus, roasty notes, and chocolate. Flavor is piney, soapy notes, chocolate and roast as it warmed, It was served way too cold and the roast and chocolate flavors were hard to discern until it warmed significantly. Medium bodied, crisp palatte, finished bitter when cold, then a little more sweet as the beer warmed. This was not terribly exciting.
