draft at kuhnhenn. pours oily brown..no head. aroma of heavy anise, raisin, sugar, and honey. alcohol in the finish. flavor is similar and is all-too dominated by the raison aspect. almost seems more of a raisin mead than a braggot. i dont detect too much, if at all, from the bourbon aging. just a ton of heat and sweetness. chibuck (3521) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 28, 2011
Thanks to Jale for this 12oz bottle... black oily body, no head... the nose is mostly mead, not super sweet but lots of honey, a touch of bourbon and chocolate on the finish, smells thick... honey bourbon, a touch hot with a milky chocolate finish, this is a bit much to take in, share with a few people, but interesting enough to try... this slowly gets much more drinkable as you go, has some unique molasses and prune notes sarro (134) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - JUN 21, 2011
UPDATED: JUL 11, 2011 On tap 4 oz sampler for Kuhnhenn Summer Solstice. Smells of super rich malt, sweet bourbon, wood, and floral honey. Pours without head and a solid black. The brewer/blender/bottler mentioned the stout blended with the mead was 3+ years old. Taste is very caramel malt forward with layers of sweet mead and bourbon barrel notes along with a bit of oxidation. Drinks very nicely, but a 12 oz bottle could probably go a long way between friends.
