Big thanks to ibrew2or3 for this one. Pours golden aroma is very floral with subtle notes ofnhoney coming through. The flavor is earthy and very floral. No honey sweetness here. Subtle oak and a mild tartness. A little thin and watery. May be a little past it’s prime.

Thanks for sharing, iowaherkeye. The body was medium bronze. A sweet aroma was floral with oak and honey. Plenty of booze were also apparent in the nose. The taste was nasty plastic with some wood. The honey is understated with some weird leather. This gets fairly boozy as it warms up. I wanted to like this one more, but this has some rough edges that hopefully will smooth out with age.

DietPepsican (1592) - @ $13.99, Iowa, USA - JUN 25, 2008
Thanks joeyiowacitysuckseye for breaking this out just for me being like "oh yeah that is something I’d like to see opened." Orange gold pour with no head/bubbles. Lots of honey and flower in the aroma. Flavor has honey, flowers, oak, grapes, and a bit of spice (pepper?). Finishes a bit thin. Not very sweet, or dry, or tart. Just middle of the road.

375mL bottle, 2004 from the brewery. Clear honey gold with some legs that did form after a few seconds. Plenty of honey, flower petals, juicy raisins, and white pepper. Flavor was kind of appley with some honey, pepper again, and a fair amount of alcohol in the bone dry finish. My label claims 8.0%, but that makes no sense at all--this is pretty boozy and a mead. Just a hint of tang present, and not terribly sweet, either. Dry finish. Full body. Pretty good mead.

2005. Not as good as the Orange Blossom, but good anyway. Honey and flower aroma that is more complex than the simple flavor, which is on the of a dry mead.

Purchased at the brewery. Pours still clear bold. It has a big big aroma of honey and the odd fusel mixed with mild earthiness. The taste starts thick and sweet as sweet honey attacks the senses. Then mild tropical fruitiness shows up as mild tannins arise and dry out the experience. It leaves a nice honey and faint fruitiness behind with a mild warming sensation.

badgerben (5254) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - MAY 26, 2008
OSLO and Guerde’s Memorial Weekend Tasting, 5/23/08. Courtesy of OSLO. Gold color. Aroma is a light mixture of clover and wildflower honey. Clover and maple syrup flavors. Light apple and a bit of grape, almost like Pinot Grigo.

Stine (1794) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAY 24, 2008
Poured from a 375 ml bottle, vintage 2005. Slick clear honey. Powdery, sweet aroma of honey, shaved coconut, lavender, fresh green apples. Vibrant, with a degenerative rub of musty carpet and weird funk. Flavor is a hot, punchy perfume with golden raisins, pineapple, vanilla, and honey. Moments of chalky alcohol and phenolic heat lend some uncomfortable synthetic quality that manages persistence, obnoxiously. Steadfast. Medium body is warm and lightly acidic. Firm sweet finish. A smooth, complex example, but the complexity is a little disjointed and random, lacking the centering, well polished, satiating simplicity that it needs. Thanks Alister!

Skyview (6093) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - MAY 24, 2008
Sampled at Olso/Guerde’s Memorial Day tasting. A 2005 vintage and shared by Guerde. Pours a clear golden mead with no bubbles and a clean top. Aroma of honey, tart apples, some raisin and a touch of mango. Taste is a little high octane alcohol, tart apples, honey and a touch of floral character. Finish is slightly tart with a flowery aftertaste that slowly disappears.

afterglow (1047) - Florida, USA - MAY 11, 2008
2005 bottle courtesy Ibrew2or3. Pours a clear still golden. Aroma of alcohol, honey, and green apples. Taste is honey, green apples, golden raisins, and alcohol. Medium thin mouthfeel with smooth alcohol. Very good.
