Aroma is Chocolate, fruit, earthy. The appearance is black brown. The flavor is chocolate, sweet, earthy. Medium, slightly thick in body. The Finish is resiny hops. Good. Decent example of the style, even if it is more sweet than hoppy. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - APR 5, 2011
Similar to a strong ale...ala 9000, albeit hugely dumbed down, and better because of it. Has the fruity esters, anise, clove and spice to accompany the highly resinous hop profile. Tho this may be "dumbed down" like I mentioned, it still becomes cloying and hard to finish. Silphium (3199) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - APR 3, 2011
On tap at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Deep garnet red-brown body, medium clumping light brown head. Nose of cocoa, berries, and piny hops. Rindy, oily body with spruce, fruity esters, and spice; quite sweet with notes of chocolate. Weird, but pretty good. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 30, 2011
Devoted ticker review. 12oz bottle poured into my Darkness glass...A very dark brown with amber on the fringes. A light tan head rises from the abyss to about two full fingers. Decent retention at first, then falls very quickly to leave to a small cap. Pretty good lacing...Astringent aroma, so harsh I cringe. Bready backbone that is accented with medicinal herbs, spices, and alcohol. Not a great combination at all...Taste is rough, burnt sugars, rubbing alcohol, and bad hops. The feel gives me esophageal burn and heart ache.
This is sadly one of the worst, actually probably the worst Kuhnhenn I’ve had. I concur with Alex’s assesment; unless your a nutty ticker like me, stay far away. flatmatt (1576) - Northville, Michigan, USA - MAR 6, 2011
On tap at the brewery. Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Aroma is hops! Strong floral and pine notes. Flavor leads with the hops, pine, grapefruit, and floral notes, at first seeming like any old IPA other than its appearance. Coffee makes its presence known later on to complete the package. Great stuff.

Thanks to IBrew2or3 for the share. Pours dark brown with a slight tan head. Nose is cocoa, earth, grapefruit, pine, chocolate, booze, and yeast. Flavor is intense and eccentric: booze, chocolate, esters, pine, and some sweet citrus. Medium-bodied and hoppy. Ibrew2or3 (8614) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - FEB 16, 2011
12oz bottle pours mahogany with deep copper edges and mocha head. The aroma is spicy hops, spicy yeast, cherries, some dark roastiness and a modest level of Belgian yeasty esters. The taste is complex to say the least and is a yummy sort of complexity that is a bit tough to put words to. I get some dark roasted malts, a thicket of citrus hops, some pine hop resin and then it becomes more and more spicy hop bitterness mixing with molasses. Different, complex, good. ucusty (2691) - raleigh, North Carolina, USA - FEB 11, 2011
Dark Amber pour with a thin off white head. Aroma is resinous, tropical fruit and strawberry. Bitter while being balanced. Lots of tropical fruit, pine and grapefruit. Little yeast brokensail (16449) - Dublin, California, USA - FEB 10, 2011
A: The pour is dark brown in color with a finger or so of tan head.
S: An intensely fruity nose to this beer. Lots of pineapple and fresh orange juice. There’s definitely alcohol present (and not surprising at 11%). The roast and chocolate notes are not as prevalent as in other beers of the style.
T: Very intense tropical fruit flavors to this beer. Pineapple, mango, papaya, grapefruit, and orange give an intense fruitiness and a mild sweetness. Not super bitter, but there is a nice bite to the beer. A mild roasted malt flavor and a bit citric feeling.
M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation.
D: I personally found this to be a fantastic beer. An amazing fruitiness to it, just a little bit on the boozy side. Tmoney99 (14479) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 9, 2011
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark brown color with an average fizzy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted dark fruit and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted dark fruit sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations where exceeded almost a standout.
