Tap @ rnh. Black color. Taste is sweet and hoppy. Almost liporter. But not as heavy. Awesome. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - APR 5, 2011
Similar to a strong ale...ala 9000, albeit hugely dumbed down, and better because of it. Has the fruity esters, anise, clove and spice to accompany the highly resinous hop profile. Tho this may be "dumbed down" like I mentioned, it still becomes cloying and hard to finish. mikem409 (2032) - bloomfield, Michigan, USA - JUN 15, 2012
tap at kuhnhenn. pours jet black with minimal head. stout aroma and a slight hoppy but sweet taste Pwn3d (1958) - Manhattan, New York, USA - APR 26, 2011
11% BDIPA, so chill. Burnt malts, caramel sweetness, bright spicey hop, and some boozy notes. flatmatt (1627) - Northville, Michigan, USA - MAR 6, 2011
On tap at the brewery. Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Aroma is hops! Strong floral and pine notes. Flavor leads with the hops, pine, grapefruit, and floral notes, at first seeming like any old IPA other than its appearance. Coffee makes its presence known later on to complete the package. Great stuff.

Bottle shared at Darkness day. Pours dark brown with minimal head. Smell some smoke and slight wood. Taste some booze with slight hops and floral malts. Good beer. polomagnifico (1202) - Saginaw, Michigan, USA - DEC 22, 2010
Draft. Very hoppy nose with some smoky roasted caramel. Black with an average tan head that left great lace. Flavor is medium sweet and very bitter. Palate is full bodied and oily soft carbonation. Overall a decent brew but way too hoppy for me to enjoy tonight. Didn’t end up finishing it. hivemind (933) - New York, New York, USA - AUG 19, 2011
On tap at Taproom 307 with Erica, Jen and Mark. Dark black pour with a small, light brownish head. Aroma and taste are both hoppy, but not aggressively so or over-the-top. Palate also had some noticeable alcohol. Pretty good. punkrkr27 (903) - Berkley, Michigan, USA - JAN 6, 2011
Very dark brown pour with a faint ruby highlight and small, off-white head. The aroma has a nice deep, resinous pine and grape fruit aroma with a little floral evergreen, some soft subtle roastiness, and a touch of bubblegum. The flavor is quite odd for the aroma. There’s a lot of smokiness blended with sweet esters, resinous hop oils, and roasty malts. All together it almost comes off like bacon and onions. It doesn’t taste offensive, but it is strange. The body is soft and medium in mouthfeel with gentle carbonation. KickInChalice (860) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 1, 2012
From notes. First reviewed 1/12/2011. Served on tap at Kuhnhenn in a tulip.
The appearance is mahogany all of the way through. A cream foam tan head stays with the beer for a minute, but fades to mostly a ring.
Coffee, dark roasted malt, lots of herbal hops and pine resin, then more grapefruit and apricot citrus create the aroma. Definitely some hop presence here.
The taste starts very sweet. Some molasses that were hidden from the aroma, and some cane sugar. Roasted malt and coffee provide the malt backbone. A bit of chocolate and then the taste suddenly changes and picks up some pine resin hoppiness, gaining steam and eventually revealing some grapefruit and apricot citrus as well. Finishes paradoxically sweet and bitter.
There is a strong full body, sticky, with medium carbonation. A combination of the hops, alcohol, and carbonation leaves my tongue tingling.
This is a little bit out there, but I enjoyed it. The sweetness will really prevent me from having more than one though.
