[4940-20121116] 355mL bottle. Light orange hops has a smoky soya sauce note in the aroma. Hazy, dark brown body with a quick foamy tan head. More floral malt and smoky soya and bitter burnt citrus peel in the flavour. Medium-full body. Bit of a surprise sneak-attack tastiness. Sampled from the tap at the 2010 Winter Solstice. Poured near black with a light brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma had a slight pine note with dark grain and a bit of spice. Flavor began with some dark grains, a bit of spice and a bit of backing pine hop to round out the beer. Pailhead (6543) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - JAN 22, 2011
On tap: The aroma is very piney with some chocolate and roast. It pours a dark brown with a small soapy beige head. The flavor starts with a quick chocolate and fruit. It finish with heavy pine and faint roast. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. brokensail (16670) - Dublin, California, USA - FEB 10, 2011

A: The pour is dark brown in color with a finger or so of tan head.
S: An intensely fruity nose to this beer. Lots of pineapple and fresh orange juice. There’s definitely alcohol present (and not surprising at 11%). The roast and chocolate notes are not as prevalent as in other beers of the style.
T: Very intense tropical fruit flavors to this beer. Pineapple, mango, papaya, grapefruit, and orange give an intense fruitiness and a mild sweetness. Not super bitter, but there is a nice bite to the beer. A mild roasted malt flavor and a bit citric feeling.
M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation.
D: I personally found this to be a fantastic beer. An amazing fruitiness to it, just a little bit on the boozy side.
Very dark brown pour with a faint ruby highlight and small, off-white head. The aroma has a nice deep, resinous pine and grape fruit aroma with a little floral evergreen, some soft subtle roastiness, and a touch of bubblegum. The flavor is quite odd for the aroma. There’s a lot of smokiness blended with sweet esters, resinous hop oils, and roasty malts. All together it almost comes off like bacon and onions. It doesn’t taste offensive, but it is strange. The body is soft and medium in mouthfeel with gentle carbonation.

Thanks to IBrew2or3 for the share. Pours dark brown with a slight tan head. Nose is cocoa, earth, grapefruit, pine, chocolate, booze, and yeast. Flavor is intense and eccentric: booze, chocolate, esters, pine, and some sweet citrus. Medium-bodied and hoppy. Silphium (3198) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - APR 3, 2011
On tap at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Deep garnet red-brown body, medium clumping light brown head. Nose of cocoa, berries, and piny hops. Rindy, oily body with spruce, fruity esters, and spice; quite sweet with notes of chocolate. Weird, but pretty good. murphym45 (779) - New York, New York, USA - MAY 2, 2011
Tap at Rattle for the Kuhnhenn takeover. Pours black with some brown head. Aroma is malty, coffee, a bit of chocolate. Barely picked up on any hops here. Taste is dry with bitter coffee and caramel. I probably wouldn’t have guessed that this was an IPA, but it was pretty good nonetheless. Sammy (12845) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 1, 2011
I thought an understated imperial stout. Smelled roasty, very balck with brown head. Would pass as a very decent RIS. Not thick, but chocolate, rich malt.Mouthfeel average. Good drinkability. Perfect carbonation.Peter Chiado’s bottle from the brewery. thomashall (999) - New Hope, Minnesota, USA - OCT 26, 2014
Bottle shared at Darkness day. Pours dark brown with minimal head. Smell some smoke and slight wood. Taste some booze with slight hops and floral malts. Good beer.
