3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle says 2008, but I think was released in 2010 after two years in oak.
A - Transparent amber-red body. Very attractive color - some nice legs.
S - Quite sweet - I see why Andrew says Kool-Aid, even if that’s not the first thing that would have came to mind for me. There’s some fruity red wine mingling with the more conventional sweet honey flavors. As it warms there’s a hint of oak and alcohol.
T - Taste is a little more vinous, oaky, and tannic, with less overt sweet mead flavors and more of the Meritage elements shining through. Alcohol is better hidden here.
M - Tannic, oaky, and dry. Medium body, with a viscous and chewy texture. Light alcohol warming, but nothing untoward.
D - I liked this a lot - it’s a nice red wine oriented mead that’s pretty easy to drink and never grows fatiguing like some of Kuhnhenn’s other offerings. I’m glad I have another bottle of this one, as it should pair nicely with a future meal.
Shared by Yaniv, and sampled from 8-oz shorty bottle. Pours a semi-clear copper red colored brew with a very thin head that dissipates clean with a clear disk top. Aroma of tart berries, white pepper, a touch of alcohol and grape tannins. Taste is medium to medium-full bodied with flavors of powdery tannin grapes, honey and a touch of oak. Finish is sweet, quite smooth with a powdery grape tannin and honey aftertaste. Nice! JK (6254) - St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA - JAN 7, 2017
Nip sized bottle shared by Yaniv. Red color. Maybe some berry aroma, but definitely berry in the flavor. Sweet, still. Excellent. jackl (8301) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JAN 7, 2017
Bottle thanks to Yaniv. Cheers! Reddish pour with a small head. Nose is bright and fruity. Cranberry and grape jellies. Hot. Flavor is fruity and sweet. Rich honey. Tart dark berry skin. Red fruits. Smooth. Lovely. thomashall (999) - New Hope, Minnesota, USA - JAN 7, 2017

Received in a trade. 6oz bottle. Shared with JLindros. Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice slightly hazy murky dirty wine hue. Aromas of big sweet, dry honey light oak barrels and nice rich red wine. Taste is similar to the nose, nice drier honey and vanilla, light tannins and oak, good red wine as well. Mouthfeel is nice with the alcohol hidden well. AirForceHops (7702) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - OCT 31, 2015
6 oz. bottle thanks to Willrunforbeer, thanks for this share! Light brown color. Aroma is just a very light trace of grape with ample honey. WillRunForBeer (2735) - Massachusetts, USA - OCT 31, 2015
The flavor has just the slightest hint of red grapes. Very slight earthquake wood hint. But it doesn’t scream oak. Really borderline cloying sweet.
6oz bottle for $12.99 from umich03jm. Thanks, Jason! Pours amber, no head, leaves legs. Aroma is brown sugar, honey. Can’t really smell the grape. Flavor is sweet honey, grape, oak. The grape is a bit thin, was hoping this would be dryer and more grape forward. Chalumeaux (1659) - Middleton, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 31, 2015
Poured from bottle thanks Willrunforbeer ruby color with nice lacing. Aromas of dark fruit wine and honey. Taste is somewhat sweet with notes of alcohol and fruit. Interesting. Heather_B (256) - New Hampshire, USA - OCT 31, 2015
Thanks Brian. Amber color. Smells like old honey. Taste is moldy sugar and fruit. Not my favorite.
