Draft @ Kuhnhenn. Black body, moderate creamy tan head. Nitro dispense is creamy but almost feels like a cask beer, thin but very smooth (3+). Sweet cocoa flavour with very light roast and dark chocolate hints. Roast in the aroma with a hint of hazelnut. GregClow (3402) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 25, 2006
Draught sample at the brewpub. Dark ruby-brown with a small, creamy tan head. Aroma is quite dry and roasty with notes of cocoa, smoke, and toasted nuts. Soft, smooth body. Flavour is very nutty and roasty, with a long, dry finish. A solid porter. CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - NOV 18, 2007
Growler at the RBSG grand tasting on 6/23/07: Transparent dark copper mahogany with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel sugar with a touch of grape candy and toffee. Body starts with a decent thickness and some light caramel sweetness with nice light fruity esters toward a bready, smooth toasty finish with a touch of milk chocolate. A nice porter. nolankowal (938) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - NOV 20, 2007

Nice hoppy porter on tap at the brewpub. Roster malts overpowered by the hops.

Draft at the brewery... Very good porter. Dark color, nice head. Balanced flavor and very drinkable. Comparable to Bell’s Porter. Not as thick as Founders. Well done and a good choice. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUL 26, 2010
Draft at Stellas Lounge (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a nice darker blackish brown, good opaque quality, with a frothy light brown head atop that dies to a small film, laces ok. Aromas are cocoa and brown malts, sweeter with a touch of earthy tobacco, brown sugar, bread malts with a touch of toffee, creamy sweetness and light floral hopping. Initial is decent lighter yet complex porter, sweeter cocoa and a touch of creamy sweetness, floral hops provide a light bitterness, brown malts and light roast with some decent biscuit. A nice mellow vanilla and cocoa, brown malts, a faint hint of licorice. This is a top notch balanced brown porter up there with Pullman Brown. On tap at GABF 2013, big malty and roast aroma and taste, pretty nice for a porter.
