Bottle thanks to miketd: Pours a transparent copper amber with a spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of lightly sweet dark toasty caramel malt and good bready Belgian yeasty. Body starts fairly full and toasty caramely sweet with a good light fruity complexity and some full, biscuity maltiness. A true to style and enjoyable Belgian strong.

Poured into snifter glass. Light brown / goldish color. Head died quickly. Sweet scent in nose. Strong flavored, but nice and balanced. Dry finish. Very good brew.

Tap at Hop Devil. Big, fruity aroma, lots of banana, grainy malt, taste is a bit astringent. Reminds me of banana bread. Very malty flavor, light tropical fruit, pine, not too much alcohol, and not great.

Tap at HDG. Deep brown with ruddy highlights. Very unusual aroma, toasted marshmallows, hazelnut and a bit of strawberry. Sort of a rye/rummy character as well. Man, this is weird. Some light peachy/rotted fruit ester. Some solventy higher alcohols as well. Flavour is sweet and lightly fruity, but there is a muddle of yeast and malt flavours in the middle. Sort of a peppery/phenolic yeastiness. There are some interesting characteristics, but the whole package is a trainwreck.

on tap at HDG. Dark brown in color with a medim sized tan head. A ton of spice in the aroma: ginger, allpice, with light chocolate, and estery/phenolic yeast. Taste is molasses, hints of chocolate and licorice, ginger, allspice, and some light banana and clove. Some spicy hops in the mid palate through the finish. Interesting, but I found it weird and a bit muddled at the time.

Very dark ruby color, nice big creamy off-white head. Strong berry-like aroma (red- and blackberry). Full-bodied. Liquerish palate. Flavor is dominated by blackberry, then also some sweetish caramelly components and hints of yeast and herbal flavors. Alcoholic punch in the aftertaste. Quite a treat, like drinking cassis liquer.

Draft at HDG. Quite the interesting beer. Spicy with clove, allspice and ginger. There’s some flavors of tangerine, pineapple and plum.

Tasted at 2008 Woodshop hosted by cquiroga. Amber color. June 2007 bottle. Sweetish, Alcohol with a little bit of soap in the aroma. Pretty nice otherwise.

3rd Annual Woodshop Tasting, 3/1/08. Thanks Chris! 750 ml bottle with nose and flavor dominated by a hefty dose of raisins, zesty fruits, hops, yeast. Intriguing to say the least! I liked it...
