Broke this puppy out for my 30th birthday. 2007 small 6oz bottle thanks to Northernbrews. Pours murky dark reddish brown with absolutely no head. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, berries, sweet caramel, and some booze. Flavor is raspberries, chocolate, sweet caramel, and some malt undertones. Palate and is silky smooth and a little syrupy but that is ok. Finishes sweet and chocolaty. Really good stuff. I love this brewery. HopHobo (12) - Lansing, Michigan, USA - NOV 19, 2009
A-Poured into a tulip out of a 6.7 oz bottle from the 2007 stash. Pours a dark brown almost burgandy color with no head or carbonation present.
S-has a very rich smell, of chocolate, alcohol and malt.
T-a truely one of a kind beer, almost like a cognac with less alcohol. The alcohol does come through, but overall its a chocolate flavor that prevails with hints of raspberries.
M-a thick smooth beer. The mouthfeel can really be appreciated as it warms, almost syrup like.
D-A great beer, nothing that I would drink a large amount of, but very good none the less. Hard to believe that this beer is considered to be a relative of the common lager.

On tap during ’09 Winter Solstice. ’07 Version. Poured a murky burnt umber with minimal head. Aroma was very strong, with sweet raspberries, caramel with a surprisingly small amount of alcohol. There was a slight undertone of honey on the nose. The alcohol was much more present on the tongue, but it meshed well with the raspberry and caramel flavors. The aftertaste left a honey note on your tongue. Surprisingly smooth on the tongue as well. trevor211 (1681) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 1, 2010
Huge thanks to Bobby91w for this tasty treat. Pours browner than I thought it would - a ruddy medium brown, with only a small ring of bubbles around the edge. The aroma is simply delectable - raspberry syrup, tons of caramel... like something you might drizzle over a great cheesecake. The flavor doesn’t quite pull through, though - mouthfeel is great, but there’s a grassy note that takes away from the pungent raspberry, and the alcohol shines a bit through the rest of the brew. Still great, but probably a bit over-hyped. 17thfloor (2443) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 28, 2010
2007 bottle thanks to xnoxhatex! Pours a flat thick syrupy but surprisingly tasty looking syrupy basically clear rust color with no head. Strong sweet caramel pudding like aroma, some fridge, nice aged raspberry tartness, lightly doughy, quite sweet but well melded. Wow is that sweet, tastes exactly like a raspberry filled shortbread cookie, wow, thats crazy, but super super sweet, mouth puckeringly sweet, some faint tootsie-roll like chocolate fills it out and the alcohol does a great job of accenting all the rich flavors. Medium bodied, totally flat, viscous but not sticky, warming alcohol in the finish, Devon tells me it had some carbonation at the brewery so I’ll go with that. Very unique beer that I’m can’t wait to try again.

Bottle at Malteprovning. Sweet intense Raspberry Fudge Vanilla. Very sweet taste of caramell fudge raspberry and strawberry. zdk (1917) - New York, New York, USA - APR 20, 2010
tap at Hop Devil Grill. Sweet, raspberry fruity syrup. Cloying and sticky caramel and boozy. Maply, vanilla, almond, butter and whipped cream. Some boozy notes. Sort of reminds me of the raspberry syrup at ihop (but better quality obviously). Interesting, unique beer. Not sure it was worth $10 for 8 oz however. fata2683 (2176) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - APR 26, 2010
2007 bottle pours murky dark brown with a very thin off white head. Aroma is dusty wood, raspberry, some strawberry and booze. Sweet caramel malt notes with some moldy funky wood flavors and soft fresh raspberry in the finish. A nice sipper. Fred82 (2324) - Québec City, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 12, 2010

Appearance : Hazy dark cherry-colored.
Aroma : Rich cherries with light chocolatr and vanilla. Notes of wax.
Taste : Big cherries and light alcohol. Some vanilla and wax. Light bitterness on finish with some alcohol.
Overall : Very intense. We were only 4 on the small bottle and I had a hard time to drink my share. Very tasty and all but a bit too intense and too rich. I don’t think this is better balanced than the Belgian Red anymore.

Appearance : Red with a tiny head.
Aroma : Raspberries, lots of vanilla. Quite sweet. A bit dusty. Notes of almonds and wax.
Taste : Raspberries, lots of vanilla and some chocolate.
Overall : Textures is very special. Very smooth. The vanilla feels pretty intense. The notes of chocolate are also really nice. Felt quite balanced overall which was quite surprising. It felt a lot more balanced than the NG Belgian Red for example. This is a real threat that I need to have again ! Thanks Martin !! 100512 8,3,9,4,17;4.1
Bottle, thanks tarheels! Pours ruby with a big dark head. Nose is big on raspberries and chocolate. Flavor is raspberries with chocolate. Reminds me of eating chocolate covered raspberries but in beer form. Definitely a desert beer.
