Recent December bottling of 2004 batch. Received in a trade with Walleye - thanks, Jim! Pours a viscous and syrupy dark brown with tinges of red when the light hits the glass right. No head or carbonation to speak of and it really reminds me more of an aged brandy than a beer. Impressive, though. Smells of brandy-soaked raspberries and chocolate with a hint of carmelized sugar. Thick and syrupy on the tongue - this is a beer that slides rather than washes down. Tastes like it smells, but not over the top on the raspberries. Very balanced and not hot with alcohol. My first thought is how amazing this eisbock would taste drizzled over pancakes. Its sweet molasses, chocolate and fruit flavors would be a show-stopper. Overall, a very unique, well-crafted and tasty dessert beer/apertif. Glad I have an additional bottle to stash and see how the flavors change in time. My first Kuhnhenn Bros. beer, but far from my last.

From Feb 2008 I got this bottle in a trade with hoppymeal. Thanks Derek! It pours from 187ml bottle(2007) a cloudy brown/amber with a very small head of foam that shrinks to just a ring around the glass almost immediately. The smell is *very* nice. I get notes of raspberry, vanilla, and some caramel malt...maybe? Hard to tell. The taste has oodles of raspberry up front followed by a *very* malty base that I'm finding hard to describe as I've never encountered that taste before. I can taste some caramel malt, maybe some butterscotch(?), some kind of tartness probably from the raspberry and wow...this son of a gun is *so* tasty and yeah, the abv is right up there and I can feel the warming but I'm enjoying it. Wow. This one gets better and better with each sip. I'm now grabbing the bottle and pouring in my glass every drop that I can get! I'm serious! The mouthfeel is silky smooth and it finishes with a raspberry/honey flavour that you just wish would never end. Man, this is a world class brew and I'm so happy to have had a chance to try it. Mucho thanks again to hoppymeal for one fine drinking experience!!

Bottle poured into a snifter showing well filtered light raspberry tinged and sparse white foam. The nose shows pronounced notes of raspberries and cane sugar. The palate is medium bodied and well carbonated. Strong raspberry forwardness with no sweetness. Strong alcoholic bite with a mild bitterness and a very strong resurgence of raspberries on the end.

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2017 Pours a clear red color with a dissipating fizzy foam head. The aroma is candy like of sweet raspberries and cherries. There is a nice bread malt presence hidden behind the fruit. Tasting is very similar to the aroma. The body is heavy and of warming booze that was inviting. There is a mild bitterness that does not allow for a strong sweet flavor dominating in the finish. Overall this is a rather flavorful and interesting brew. Some may not enjoy the finish (cough syrup) but I feel that it compliments or puts the flavors into check. Definitely a sipping brew.

At cbc, small sample. Old note. The aroma has raspberry, jam, sugar. Bit hazy, reddish coloured beer with an off-white head. The taste is sweet, massive fruity, bit alcoholic. Very full. Nice.

Vintage ’12. Thanks to Matt for this awesome brew!

Taste: very sweet, alcohol, fruity touch, bit sugary, raspberry jam. Aftertaste: alcohol, raspberry, sugary, sweet, more alcohol, slightly acidic, bit sour.

Murky dark amber color with a bit of tan foam. Aroma has raspberries with brown sugar, caramel malt and toasted notes. Taste starts sweet and fruity with raspberry jam, sticky malt and sugar, slightly tart fruity finish. Medium, syrupy sticky body with low carbonation. The raspberry notes go very well with the sweet, malty flavors.

Bottle from Clint (starcross) -- thanks a ton, buddy! This is substantially harsher than I was expecting. The raspberry flavor and aroma is readily apparent, but it’s surprisingly medicinal, to the point of smelling and tasting artificial. The malt base is hot, giving off booze and intense caramel sweetness. I shared this with about 6 employees of a local brewery, and it was a struggle to finish it.

As one person in the group put it, "this tastes like a discontinued Yankee Candle that was ’NyQuil’ flavored."

Bardzo syropowe, trochę jak miód pitny/nalewka z malinami. Słodkie, kwaskowate, cudnie owocowe.

The foam just goes around the rim. Medium brown amber color. Very big sweet malty nose with burnt raisins, raspberries, brown sugar, brandy, Christmas cake. Very full body, tons of raspberries, chocolate, Christmas cake, very sticky malty mouth. Super low carbonation. Boozy but so delectable and rich. Lingering I had this last time in 2008 and it is just as good.
