Poured black with a medium tan head. Mild to moderately sweet roasted malt. Light fruit and a fair amount of cocoa. Great aroma. The flavor was sweet and roasty but short. This went to a moderate amount of alcohol on the finish. The flavor was odd. Very lively carbonation. Too carbonated. Medium to ful bodied and very warming.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2008 Courtesy of BBB63. Thank you, sir.

Didnt like this one nearly as much as the Road Rash....this brewery is extreme in the ABV department, and this one is just a bit too much....heat overwhelms everything else...dark brown body, lighter on the edges, a bit pale for an Imp Stout....chocolate, dark malts and tons of booze on the nose.....the ABV is so distracting everywhere in this brew....I dont think I could drink a whole bottle of this, the small sample I had was plenty....disappointing from these guys....

Thanks to RagallachMC for the bottle. I think this is the first Kuhnhenn beer that Ive actually rated (I have a few cellared). I probably should have started somewhere else.
Pours deep brown with a smallish head. Aroma of dust and cardboard, alcohol, dark malts and prunes. Maybe a little liquorice and chocolate in there, but the big alcohol taste covers the subtleties fairly well. This might have improved with age, but I doubt it would ever be a upper class stout.

12oz via my Kuhnhenn hookup hoppymeal. Shared with my GF Cyn, my friends Geoff and Chris, most went to me and Cyn. Nice to see that the last rating came from a shared bottle between two ratebeerians ive traded with. Peer fizzed. Pours black with a head that quickly faded. Nose is mighty huge with coffee and choco. Taste is sweet, and rich and the alcohol comes through really big. This is good, but really boozy and not and interesting. Its definetly higher than a low 3, but lower than 4, so Id say its going middle.

12 oz bottle shared with MrBendo. Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Nose is coffee, cocoa and a touch of molasses. Medium body with tangy carb. Taste is chocolate, coffee grounds and dark fruits with a bitter alcohol finish. Quite boozy but understandable at 18%.

Pitch black body with a small tan head. Sweet chocolaty nose with molasses, licorice and alcohol. The flavor is very sweet and moderately bitter with anise, chocolate, toffee, raisins and rum. Full body is soft and sticky with moderate carbonation. The finish is long and warm.

Big thanks to TheRealBastard for this special offering. Poured black with a huge tan head. Aroma of fruit, chocolate, and alcohol. This one may be painful. Real heavy body. Thick. Some fruit and chocolate but the alcohol just overpowers it half way through. What a mess.

Popped the cap and it starts slowly foaming out. Into a snifter with a patchy brown head on top of a nearly-pitch black body. Nose full of milk, cottage cheese, and dough scents from the overabundance of yeast, on top of what may be some chocolate malt and smoke, but really it’s tough to get much under the yeast and sweet-hot alcohol. Hugely thick up front, then sweet, then hot and biting, then warming the back of the mouth and throat with a resinous black tar and char flavor that smoothes out over time much like bourbon. Interesting, and not completely disgusting like I was expecting.

Bottle from Artusory. Super boozy aroma, totally ridiculous harsh. There is definitely some chocolate malt in there but its masked by pure vodka/rum. Theres a huge head on the pour but its quickly destroyed by the alcohol. Flavor is actually quite nice, behind the booziness there is a wonderful plummy sweetness are rich chocolately notes. Fruitier than a normal IS, the sweetness really does this well.

Wow,my favorite style at 18%,to begin this journey it poured slow and thick like molasses in to my glass,as i am pouring i get this smell of sweetness and coffee,it stops with a small almost faint head into dark blackness, now my first sip i was overwhelmed at how sweet it was but as i warmed up it turned into a great sipping desert, with hints of chocolate and alcohol, alot of it to,if you can find it try one and you like i will have a graet experience with one of the strongest RIS i have hadCHEERS!
