Bottle from Artusory. Super boozy aroma, totally ridiculous harsh. There is definitely some chocolate malt in there but its masked by pure vodka/rum. Theres a huge head on the pour but its quickly destroyed by the alcohol. Flavor is actually quite nice, behind the booziness there is a wonderful plummy sweetness are rich chocolately notes. Fruitier than a normal IS, the sweetness really does this well. railcat1 (702) - Kissimmee, Florida, USA - FEB 2, 2008
Wow,my favorite style at 18%,to begin this journey it poured slow and thick like molasses in to my glass,as i am pouring i get this smell of sweetness and coffee,it stops with a small almost faint head into dark blackness, now my first sip i was overwhelmed at how sweet it was but as i warmed up it turned into a great sipping desert, with hints of chocolate and alcohol, alot of it to,if you can find it try one and you like i will have a graet experience with one of the strongest RIS i have hadCHEERS! jimbowood (1036) - Freeport, Georgia, USA - FEB 1, 2008
Bottle courtesy of styles. Wow, not what I was expecting. Very hot on the tongue, but really tasteless and dry finish. Odd brew. If you’ve got one, sit on it for 3-4 yrs atleast. Alcohol heat obliterates all other flavors. Dickinsonbeer (5074) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JAN 31, 2008
Thanks to MIketd for the trade! 18%? Crap! Pours a wierd deep brownish muddled with a fizzy diminishing headd- not very black as expected mostly because of the name but whatever. Aroma is tons of fruity esters, fusel hot alcohols, tons of toffee, caramel and molsasses- with some light chocolate and nutty hints- not stoutish enough though. Tons of solventy alcohol, esters, fruits in the flavor with paint thinnner as it warms- insanely sweet and cloying with brown sugar, toffee, honey and maple syrup- agian just ntoes of chocolate, no roast and not really stout-like. Burning alcohol in the end. Very hot, and kinda messy. hophead75 (2012) - Largo, Florida, USA - JAN 29, 2008
Shared by Dickinsonbeer. Almost black in color. Aroma: chocolate, molasses and alcohol. Taste is alot of chocolate, and a ton of malt with a big punch of alcohol midway through the taste right through the finish. This may be good someday, but it’s just way too hot right now to enjoy.

Bottle generously shared by iowaherkeye, thanks Joey! Very dark brown color, brownish head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is very boozy, once you get past a big wiff of alcohol you find some bready and roasty aromas; just not very pleasant. Taste is also very boozy, burnt, ashy, and just a little weird to me. High carbonation and light body. Too much focus on alcohol, not enough attention to the beer. More body and less alcohol, then we’ll talk; no more alcohol for the sake of alcohol. I have all the confidence in the world that the Kuhnhenn brothers will get this one fixed up and into another one of their masterpieces; it’s just not there yet, IMO. Bottle shared by iowaherkeye. Burns 2007 vintage. Poured an opaque black color with a light brown head. Aroma was chocolatey and vinous with distinct alcohol. Almost like a fat cabernet sauvignon with lots of tannins and some dark chocolate. The assertive carbonation and strong alcohol made for quite an initial burn on the tongue. They also combined to lighten up what I can only assume was a much thicker body underneath. The alcohol flavor overpowered the malt, but I also tasted some raisin, potato, and a little chocolate. I preferred the Road Rash Impy over this one. DietPepsican (1592) - @ $13.99, Iowa, USA - JAN 25, 2008
Pours very black with a trace of a dark brown head. Burnt whiskey aroma, some chocolate. Flavor include dark chocolate, smoked almonds, and a bit of soy sauce. I don’t think they made any effort to hide the 18%, but maybe some time could mellow it out a tad. Overall it didn’t take much away from the flavors. I’d like to have a full bottle and at least an hour with this one a year down the road. Thanks for sharing joey. heemer77 (5358) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - JAN 25, 2008
Thanks for sharing, iowaherkeye. The body was black with a light brown and orange colored head. The aroma was strong coffee with some booze and whiskey. There were also some vineous and oaky notes. The taste was coffee with tobacco and a little bit of ashtray. This was decently carbonated with a boozy finish. Fairly light overall, considering the abv. hopscotch (11161) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JAN 13, 2008
Bottle... Pours pitch black with a mid-sized, creamy, well-tanned head. Acrid, ashy, charcoal aroma with very light acidity. Full-bodied and abrasive with ticklish carbonation. Sweet, acidic and bitter... great balance when analyzed separately. Dark, semi-sweet chocolate, lemon peel tanginess and alcohol bitterness. Very rough around the edges as none of these essences really meld together. Bitter, tart, astringent finish. A touch of acetaldehyde in both the aroma and flavor, but this one should hold up well and mellow out with time. Until then, it’s still a nice experience.
