COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

24.12.12 Uts: dyp, mørk bronse, lite skum og kullsyre. Duft: søt malt og korn, søt og tung alkoholduft, noe humle. Smak: mye korn og malt, fyldig og god, varig ettersmak, men litt skuffende. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330ml bottle. Opaque, darkest brown colour with ruby glimmer and average, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, sulphureous head. Sweet-ish, dark malty aroma, notes of malt lozenge. a touch of toffee, liquorice, very cautious hints of coffee. Taste is sweet dark malty, notes of malt lozenge, hints of dark caramel and toffee, a touch of liquorice; oily texture, smooth and soft, minimally sticky palate. Well hidden alcohol, surprisingly drinkable.

Zapach: rodzynkowy, trochę winny, suszone ciemne owoce. Smak: nuty chlebowe, pumpernikiel, słodowy, trochę paloności i rodzynek, alkohol dobrze ukryty. Moim zdaniem jest to przyzwoity średniak.

Pours deep mahogany with a foamy head that lingers without lacing. Aroma is Munich hops and not much else. Taste is rich toffee with notes of dried fruit. Aftertaste is slight booze with a raisin component. A very drinkable eisbock that sets the baseline.

elbernays (1731) - Dublin, IRELAND - NOV 2, 2017
Bottle from Saveur beer. Pours strong tea brown. Toast, burnt bread, toasted nut, alcohol, wet leaf. Flavour is a hindered caramel with burnt butter alcohol finish. Fairly rounded for style.
