COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Dark browm, rootbeer like liquid, medium head similiar to a cola that dissapated after 2-3 minutes. Malty aroma. Taste is rather one dimesional, sweet finish. Not as good as The Urbock Dunkel Eisbock.

I loved this beer but was quite trashed by the time I had it. Need to get it again. Sorry, I had to upload these old ratings. They were for me, not for uploading. And also I need 75 characters, hence this sentence. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle in Seattle. I’ve had this sitting around for Andrew’s Ice tasting that never came. Ring of solid foam, dark leathery brown body, some hints of light coming through. Huge rum raisin impression on the sip. Deep and leathery, nutty and rough flavors. Body itself is fairly thick with strong bitterness. Tons of raisin and prune. Rich, deep eisbock. Very nice.

Eisbock’s accentuate most of what I find distasteful about bock beers typically. They can be overly sweet, with an unbalanced maltiness that isn’t that appealing. This is an excpetion. A bock, I wouldn’t call balanced, but it was tasty. Tried for the first time in 2009.

Bottle 33cl. Small head. Opaque chestnut to deep brown. Small head. Aroma: massive caramel, syrup, fruit jam. Full body. Complex taste. Rather sweet. Let it be. Caramel & toasted malts in their best shape. Additional nuts, dried fruit. No need for hops here. Perfect.

330ml bottle. Pours dark mahogany with a thin light brown head that disappears altogether. Very aromatic with raisins, molasses, sweet malt, gigs. Flavors are similar with dried fruits, syrup, molasses, brown sugar, Marsala. Rich texture. Sweet, though finishes somewhat dry. Love it.

Tap at Haus Wertheym, Frankfurt Altstadt. Pours chestnut brown with a lasting off-white to beige head. Aroma of light toasting, dark fruit, toffee, malt, molasses. prune, and raisin. Quite heavy sugary sweetness, low bitterness. Medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Decent example of one of my favourite styles.

Dark brown/cider color; Medium creamy body; Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, toffee, & dark fruit; Flavor of toasted sweet malt, caramel, molasses, dark fruit (notably plums & cherries), raisons, and spice; Alcohol is well hidden; Nicely balanced and complex; Excellent brew.
