Not a bad brew. Nothing really stands out about it to me (I actually can't remember much about the beer other than "Eh, not bad."

Flaska från herr Kenne. Smak och doft av humle, malt, rostade toner, mörk torkad frukt, choklad med toner av brunt socker och läder. Lagom och fin maltsötma, lätt kropp, fina aromer, bra beska.

Jabic (611) - Plainfield, Vermont, USA - AUG 5, 2017
Ar: Black tea and toast; a slight, clean bit of roast and ash. Ap: Deep brown, opaque; medium light mocha head with moderate-low retention, leaving a donut shape with foam edges as it resides. T: Intense malt with a bit of licorice; softly chocolaty; pear and brown sugar; bitterness is medium, firm, and comes along with a herbal flavor; toasty flavor grows through the palate, with some light ash at the end. P: Medium-light body with high carbonation; finish is medium-dry. O: A beer with a malt focus coupled with a lean and dry drinkability; roast and toast lend quite a bit of richness.

2015 BJCP Category: 8B Schwarzbier

AROMA: Strong caramel/confectionery aroma (slight butterscotch). Slight black licorice (probably dark malt that’s aged) with minor sherry component. 8/12

APPEARANCE: Dark brown the black hue (22-38 SRM). Large tan frothy retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Fairly strong malty sweetness with confectionery flavors of caramel, butterscotch and toffee. Some dark/roasted malt provides some balance. Hops are low with earthy/minty flavor. Bitterness is very low. Clearly an old bottle, but has held up well. 13/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body and carbonation. Smooth texture; slightly sweet aftertaste. High drinkable and sessionable at 4.9% ABV. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Though likely old, still quite delectable and fun to drink. Alternative to your usual dessert beer. 7/10

TOTAL SCORE: 35/50

Bottle a month past the expiration date, pours from the bottle black with thin off white head, aroma honey with notes of roasting, bitter start with notes of honey and dry end

From old tasting notes. Huge tan head sits on top of a deep reddish brown liquid. Sweet toasted malt aroma has hints of earthiness and chocolate. Roasted malt flavor with a well balanced hop character. Good bittersweet undertones and caramel nuances. Nice dry hop finish.

Schwarz im Glas, kein Durchblick, cremige und sehr gut haltende Schaumkrone. Röstmalziger Antrunk, leichte Säure mit Kaffeenoten gepaart, Hopfenbittere im Abgang.

By far the best beer by the Monchshof brewery. In contrast to their other beers is this a nice aromatic, strong tasting beer with character. I enjoyed it!

Draft. Pitch black pour with a small beige head and good retention. Great lacing. Smooth and very dark roasted malt with no coffee flavors. Really good.
