Ichigo Ichie is a Japanese idiom that is often translated as "each moment only once," stressing the importance of valuing each encounter between people. The origins of the phrase are rooted in the tea ceremony where it emphasizes the duty on the part of the host to strive to give their entirety to ensure the greatest experience possible for the guest as there is no guarantee they will have the chance to entertain the guest under the same circumstances ever again. This is how we feel about the beers we produce--we may only have one chance to share them with someone, so we give our all every time we make it.

This beer is loosely based upon the traditional Belgian-style Saison and blends the aromatics of Belgian yeast with hops from New Zealand and the United States. Legend has it that the style originated from beers brewed at farmhouses in the French-speaking region of Belgium to quench the thirst of the hard-working farmhands. While we don’t have farmhands to satisfy, we think the inviting aroma and refreshing dryness of Ichigo Ichie make it a perfect fit for our year round beer menu.

Malt Bill: Pilsner Malt, Malted Wheat
Hops: Merkur, Cascade, Pacific Jade
Yeast: Belgian Ardennes

Keg at Len - Kyoto. Pours mostly clear yellow-gold with a creamy, pure white head. The nose has decent estery notes, some lemon peel, biscuits, dried wheat. Light sweet flavour with some grassy bitterness, wheat flakes, bitter citrus rind, understated Belgian yeast. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Clean finish with fairly assertive grassy bitterness, more lemon peel, some husky grain, dried wheat bread. Just a touch too bitter, but nice overall.

Keg. Pours medium pale yellow with a residing white rim. Scent is medium dense saison with strong notes of bubblegum - vanilla, cedar, resin. Taste is medium saison yeast with plenty of wood/resin notes, mega dry, and a bit of vanilla. The flavors are complex but cultured. Finish is dry. Not my style but fantastic beer.

Draft @ BBP Good Beer Feast 2016, merci à l’équipe Bxl.

On tap at Len. Breadfruit and coriander nose. Hazy lemon color, pure white rich foam. Lemon verbena, sour pith with a not unpleasant calcium taste. Finish is hay and sour wheat.

Kyoto Brewing Co.’s Ichigo Ichie on tap at Daimaru as part of an event until July 16th. Served in a branded snifter, it’s a glowing cloudy gold with q thick soapy white head. The nose is grassy, peppery, spices with mild funk. The first sip was more bitter than expected with a it of a metallic edge to it. As my palate adjusted I got spice, cinnamon, pepper, citrus and a bit bready wheat with a refreshing dry finish. This is a very solid first core beer from Kyoto Brewing, definitely a winner.
