One of the most inspiring things about the craft beer industry is the dedication and devotion its members show their products. While this is an obvious necessity on the part of the brewer, you see it when interacting with people in this industry no matter what their job: tour guide, accountant, sales rep, bar staff. Its hard to think of too many other industries where this is the case, so when we came across the Japanese idiom Ichii Senshin, often translated as "single-minded dedication," we thought it perfectly described the way these people approach their craft.
This beer brings together the best aspects from our two favorite brewing traditions: America and Belgium. Craft beer in America has sparked a reawakening of beer lovers across the world, mainly driven by bold and bitter hop flavors. Belgium has always produced beers of amazing depth and complexity thanks in large part to the unique character of its yeast. For Ichii Senshin, using these two ingredients together creates a Belgian IPA that blends fruity and citrusy hop character with earthy and spicy yeast flavors without being overly bitter.

Malt Bill: Pilsner Malt, Maris Otter, Malted Wheat
Hops: Warrior, Chinook, Styrian Goldings, Willamette, Centennial
Yeast: Belgian Ardennes

Schooner on-tap at Beer Bar Miyama 162, Kyoto (¥1000):

An enjoyable enough beer without it ever really surprising, there was some pleasant pine & grapefruit flavours coming through alongside some floral touches & a hint of Belgian yeast but my biggest complaint with this one was that it wasn't ever really strong enough sadly. There was some nondescript fruits & further malt bitterness towards the end but it wasn't quite as pronounced as I'd have liked to make this a beer that I'd hurry back to.

Tap. Nice golden pour with some white foam on top. Nose is clearly Belgian, yeasty spices, also lots of herbal character there. Nice hop tingle provides a hint of some generous hopping. Medium-light body, drinks very easy. Good example of IPA in Belgian style.

Heavily phenolic with a modest hop palate. Slid, clean, smooth but just does not go any where for me. A pint was tough going.

Draft @ BBP Good Beer Feast 2016.

On tap at Ant ’n’ Bee, Tokyo. Pours clear golden, white head. Hoppy, fruity, citrus, some yeasty notes. Quite smooth. Lasting bitterness. Medium bodied. Very nice and balanced.

A belgian IPA that really attacks the palate with aggressive spice and bitterness. It’s not my favorite approach to the style but its actually pretty easy to drink because the body is crisp and lean.

On tap. Dark yellow, white head. Fruity grassy aroma. Yeasty fruity sweet flavour, medium hoppy bitterness, great one

Poured from the tap at Len’s. Light yellow with a slight orange hue and near white head. Grassy hops with light yeast, mildly dry finish, light creamy texture, flavour dissipates a bit at the end though.

Tap at Bungalow. Bold cloudy gold with fine billowing head. Yeasty, grassy aromas. Beautifully balanced sourness and bitterness got its fangs into me. As always, refined and delicious.

On tap at CBB Bud, first chance to try.
L: a slightly hazy straw gold with a creamy head of white foam.
S: a very clear bright fruity aroma, invitIng Belgian yeast.
T: a delicious hop flavour, citrusy, not overdone, and it’s balanced really well by the malt bill. Full-flavours, refreshing lively palate.
F: it’s got a solid body, bitterness in check, lingering Belgian yeast notes.
O: my wife took this off me and made it disappear. We loved its thirst-quenching yet full flavour. I need more.
